Anybody stay here recently? I know it's relatively new and got good reviews when it opened, but was wondering what people think of it now.

Specifically, if you get a room facing the outer areas (not the courtyard), is that a problem?

Depends on which outer area you're facing. Torrey Pines Rd? Busy street. Back side of the building? Golf course.

If you get a room facing the outer area, it may be facing the parking lot, which may or may not be a problem.
Really a lovely hotel. Visited it in January, the architecture and gardens are pretty. Rooms are a little plain but very comfortable looking.

yes it is just down torrey pines road from the course, on the way to the beach...

If you go to the spa at all would you mind posting back here? I've been wanting to try it but just can't seem to get over there...

Frankie, I understand about the rooms facing the parking lot. Any opinions on the rooms facing the far side of the hotel? I've seen some pictures and it looks like it overlooks about 10 feet of grass then a wall.

I visted once with a friend thinking about having her wedding there. It has beautiful ground/landscaping/buildings. I normally wouldn't really think of having visitors stay in that area just because there's not really too much going on in the area. (Just because it's not downtown La Jolla with shops and restaurants within walking distance) It IS near UCSD, Torrey Pines, Torrey Pines State Park, Scripps aquarium, Del Mar beach.

I'm sorry, can't help with rooms facing far side...no memory there, but it seems to be a fairly quiet area overall, and I wouldn't worry too much...

It's not next to the golf course. It is directly across the road from UCSD and the view from rooms overlooking the parking lot includes some of the newer dorm buildings. At the rear of the hotel, there is a relatively narrow strip of landscaping, then a wall. On the other side of the wall is an exclusive residential neighborhood. There is also a residential neighborhood to the south. The northern end of the property is adjacent to the Salk Institute. Not far along the road is the access road to the Torrey Pines Glider Port. The hotel has no views of the ocean at all.

This would be a great place to stay if you were visiting the area on business at one of the many biotech firms in the area, or visiting UCSD, but you have to drive anywhere else, including golf and restaurants for dinner.

If you are planning, or hoping, to play golf at Torrey Pines, then you are much better staying at either the Hilton or the Lodge as both of them have arrangements with the City for tee times.
