Embassey Resort?

Anyone stayed at the Embassey Resort timeshare at Poipu beach in Kauai? Considering staying there this year, no info yet. How is traffic on Kauia now? Haven't been there for many years. Afraid its gotten like Maui.

We stayed at the Embassy Vacation Resort at Poipu Point in May. We loved it. I was quite nervous as I could not get any information or ratings before going. We had a garden view on the lower level. It was so spacious (2 bedrooms and 2 baths), clean and comfortable. We spent 5 days there and then 6 on Maui. Kaui definitely hasn't gotten to be like Maui. The thing about the traffic there is that there is basically one road and if there is road work (which there was) there is nothing you can't exactly take another route.

We own at the Embassy and we love it. If you can request a building request building 7 or 8 for the best views! I believe there is a website now for the Embassy it is www.kauaiembassy.com. You will love it. We are actually planning our next trip back also. As far as traffic, the most traffic problems are in Kapaa. It is far from being like Maui. Also, you can walk over to the Hyatt from the Embassy. There is so much to do there. The turtles also hang out there at the Embassy which is alot of fun to sit and watch.

Poipulady,
My son also owns there, and we may use one of his weeks since they can't go this year. Just wondering what it looks like and how you know what unit you get for any week. You do not get specific unit do you? Are most of the owner units ocean view? When we last stayed there, the Waiohi was the big 5* on Poipu Beach, sounds like Hyatt might be now. This was before Hurricane Hugo!! Just trying to figure out when to try to go for best weather, etc. Like late May/early June, or late Oct/early Nov.

Message: if you go to their website you will see a map - http://www.kauaiembassy.com Not all units are oceanfront. some are oceanview and there are alot of garden units. It is worth going to their site. When we reserve our room we always ask for a specific unit. We prefer building 8 facing the ocean. Unit 8403. Parking is a pain there and we feel that building 8 has the closest parking and a very short walk to the Hyatt. Go to the website. If you need anything else just ask! Haven't been to this site in a long time. Actually forgot about it! When are you planning a trip?

We were thinking about late Oct early Nov, but my son says may be filled up, some reserve year or more in advance, so we don't know yet. They are leaving for conference in Maui tomorrow so may not know until he gets back. Just researching and checking availability a this point. Celebrating 40th---anniv that is! Seems like we should get to stay free just for lasting that long!!!!

We have really good friends who own there. They have had 2 weeks from the opening but hey recently bought another week. They go every summer and have only great things to say. They have 2 10 year olds who love it there too.

BTW The hurricane that destroyed much of Kauai on Sept 1992 was Iniki. Hugo destroyed lots of the south east mainland in Sept 1989.

I'm not sure now which hurricane it was. Friends of ours were on cruise ship that had to divert to somewhere else because of it. At the time, I had heard that the vegetation was really torn up. Glad to see it is coming back as we remembered. We are really getting excited about doing this if we can get in. Been hanging out in Alaska for the last two trips. Wife says we want sun!!!

Just saw your post jq....we have stayed at EVR-Poipu 5 times. We own in Tahoe, but always trade for Kauai, as Tahoe is so close for us we go up 5-6 times a year...and never for a week.

We love EVR. Parking is sometimes difficult there...I think that was already stated. The 2BR/2BA Units are very large.

Let us know how it worked out with your son trading for there in October. We tried to get there this year with no such luck. We couldn't get in to Kauai at all. We were able to get into the Paniolo Greens on the Big Island NEXT April. We are excited...Kauai is our favorite and we will miss it though.

Go to Brennecke's Restaurant....nice and relaxing with a great view. Good poo-poo platter and yummy lava flows.

If you are an owner at EVR Kauai you would have first choice over anyone. But I would suggest a year in advance. It is a pain to plan a vacation that far in advance but it works for us. We bank a week (have 1 week a year but are from Michigan) and then go for 2 weeks. The problem with that is that after 1 week we usually have to move to another unit, but they move us. We own an Ocean front and always get an oceanfront so far anyway. I do it 360 days in advance.

October should not be a problem. We normally go during winter break so that has always been a busy time. Sept. Oct. should be fine.

Brenneckees - wow I think that is where I tasted my first lava flow!!!! I love them. Actually, Tidepools at the Hyatt gave us the recipe! And the Embassy pool bar makes a good one too plus the puu puu platters are good too! LOL Afew more days and we will be booking our trip for March 3 - 17, 2006!

Thanks for all the info. We have never owned a time share and have only been to one or two presentations. Since I can never make it work on a cost basis for vacation week for what we are comfortable spending, we never followed up. My son bought his 2br-2b unit because he had no house for tax writeoff. As for this current week, he turned his into RCI because they didn't know what they were going to do, and it was expiring in Nov. I talked to him last nite and learned that, so not what we will do. He will look around at properties in Maui this week when he is there, but we may be too late to get a nice beach front unit in Kauai. Any other places there that any of you have stayed at and recommend? The RCI guide sure doesn't tell you much. Thanks again for info and I will keep researching. At least AAA has stars and a short description!

Try the Lawai!!! I know it is in the RCI listings and know many people that have stayed there! GREAT views and right across the street from the beach. One of the best snorkeling in Kauai!
