Eateries in Dallas
Hello. My wife and I will be in Dallas for a Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday morning. We're staying at the Adolphus Hotel and I'm looking for places to eat or have drinks. I know we'll go to Bob's Chophouse for one evening meal but would love some help. We love margaritas and brewpubs and also good steaks. Any suggestions? Also, any sure fire hits for the area around the Adolphus in terms of shopping or sites? We will have a car.
Thanks.
Thanks.

The newspaper guide to Dallas has 8,500 restaurants in their database. go to www.guidelive.com and click under restaurants.
From the Adolphus, cross over to Main Stret and walk east... there will be a small cluster of restaurants a couple of blocks away.
For more restaurants, walk over to the West End ... anyone can point you there ... and you'll find about 60 or so restaurants ... just about anything you can think of.
Also, get on one of the motorized trolleys on Main Street and ask the driver to let you off at the McKinney Avenue Trolley. Take the trolley north and you will pass by many, many restaurants on the way to a neighborhood called the West Village.
Bon Appetit!

Here are some specific suggestions...
For a brewpub, there are a couple of them on Greenville Avenue a couple of blocks north of Lovers Lane... one is called Tworows, and the other is ???
Margaritas? Half the eateries in town sell margaritas... they're all good.
Steaks? Try The Palm in the West End, also Morton's in the West End, also Truluck's Steak and Stone Crab on McKinney and Pearl...

Gosh...I travel constantly for my job and Dallas is a WONDERFUL place to have to eat.
Addison (right off HWY 75 and Beltline road) is a great place to hit the new trends. Greenville (as posted earlier) is great. My favorite for beef is Fogo de Chao. It's a Brazilian steakhouse with a unique atmosphere and incredibly cooked cuts of meat. It's a little higher priced (expect about $70 for the both of you) but the creme brulee is worth it and the service is impeccable. For fast food on the run, hit Yoshi's - a Japanese fast food that is as healthy as it is yummy!
I can't remember the name of it, but there is a mexican restaurant right there on Beltline just on the other side of the highway. I can't remember the name, but they're very established and their first restaurant is actually downtown. Great mexican, I don't know about the margs.
Have fun...

I had a great meal at the Star Canyon restaurant while recently in Dallas on business. Some locals had mentioned they thought the place has lost something since the original chef, Steven Pyle, left. However, I found it to be really interesting southwestern cuisine.
I wasn't driving so I'm not sure of the section of town it is in.

Addison is at Dallas North Tollway and Belt Line, NOT Hwy 75...stay as far away from Hwy 75 (Central Expressway) as you can.Otherwise you will be caught up in the mess of the HighFive construction. But Addison is where the action is north of Dallas.BeltLine Rd is the "strip".I love S and D Oyster Company on McKinney Ave not far from downtown for seafood.Very original/fresh.Houston's has a couple of locations one in Addison on BeltLine ewast of the Tollway. The list goes on and on.For shopping you will be right next door to NeimanMarcus original store a true landmark in the Southwest.Worth a visit. For margaritas, OnTheBorder on BeltLine in Addison is fun.Good food, loud and jammin.East of Midway Rd.

Desparado's on Greenville, just south of Lovers Lane is not far from Downtown and has some of the best authentic Mexican food, and dangerously strong (and delicious) Margaritas.
Monica aca Alla and Cuidad are other great choices.
Dragonfly, a new Stephan Pyles restaurant at The Hotel Zaza is sure to be the next big thing in Dallas... it's just a few miles from The Adolphus.
If you are a "foodie" a MUST see is the new Central Market at Lovers Lane & Greenville Ave. Eatzis, on the corner of Lemmon and Oak Lawn, just north of downtown is also a great foodie spot.
I'm not sure what kind of shopping you want to do but for expensive tastes, Highland Park Village is a nice stop.
The Galleria is a popular high end mall.
The Shops a Willow Bend are also a great high end shopping spot, but it's far from dntn Dallas.
For the best cheap shopping, try Sam Moon on Harry Hines @ 635 (LBJ) It's just a lock from the intersection of I35 and 635.
It's just an amazing place to get accessories at a fraction of the retail cost... it's a huge attraction and never fails to impress visitors.
Good luck and have fun. If Dallas has anything to offer, it's food and shopping!
Hwy 75 is fine from downtown to Royal Lane and not that bad all the way into Plano unless there is a wreck or some special construction closure, which is rare. I drive it every day to/from work and it's a dream compared to traffic most cities.

BeachBoi...LOL Make that "lived". Past tense. We lived in Plano for almost two decades but moved 10 years ago so I'm a "has been" for info on Dallas eateries. I have no idea what Bob's Chophouse is even! Our son still lives there so we get back regularly, but he's not interested in upper end dining so we tend to go back to our old family favorites, Uncle Julio on Lemmon (now one in Plano too, but not as good as the original IMHO), or Cantina Laredo on Beltline for the BEST Tex-Mex, still, and fun to boot!
We also usually hit S&D Oyster Co once a visit for old times sake, having lived in New Orleans even longer ago than Dallas, and still miss that food. It's a Dallas institution. S&D gives it a shot though not quite the "real thing", and is convenient if you are playing around the McKinney area antique shops.
I'm about due for another Dallas fix...this post just reminded me it's time.

Mike,
The Star Canyon restaurant (in Oak Lawn section of Dallas, approx 15-min drive from downtown) USED to be a great place, however as previous poster mentioned, Stephen Pyles has left, so I wouldn't keep it on my top ten list. I haven't gotten here yet, but there's supposed to be an excellent restaurant at the newly opened Hotel Zaza's; in fact, I believe that's where Stephen Pyles went. Of course, for great food (& expensive, too!) there's always The Mansion at Turtle Creek. Personally I love "Steel", an upscale Asian place (Oak Lawn area).
OH, a great place to go for dinner AND a movie is in the West Village (betwn McKinney & Cole on Lemmon Ave) --- also a short drive from downtown Dallas (either via Central/75 or drive north on McKinney Ave). Sorry, there aren't any great steak places in West Village. There is a good casual eatery called "Taco Dinner"; a great high end restaurant "Paris Vendome" and as I mentioned a movie house, which is the "Magnolia".
