Driving to South Carolina

Planning a family trip to Myrtle Beach last week of March. Driving from Michigan. How is the mountain driving? We're a little shaky on mountain driving. Any tips for stops along the way.

Unless you choose to get off the interstate to drive on small, curvy mountain roads, there will be no "mountain driving".

We drive through Asheville NC sometimes on our way to HHI. There is mountain driving in the Smokies but it is all highway driving. As long as you don't anerve any of the truck drivers (like my younger daughter who loves to give everyone the finger from the back seat), you should be OK. Check with AAA because a couple of summers ago I-40 was closed due to some major rock slides. Asheville is a great stop as its very artsy/craftsy and you could stop overnight. Don't know where you are in Michigan but assume you will be taking I-75 to I-40 and will have to go through there. Don't stop in Pigeon Forge or Dollywood. Every store has Tshirts and really, really low class stuff. Not worth getting off the highway. If you can squeeze in some time on the Blue Ridge Parkway, that is very pretty, but you should check with AAA on driving conditions in March.
