Driving STOPS Naples, Florida to NJ?

Kindly share with us your favorite northbound stops from Naples, Florida, to the NJ area. We would like to do this drive in early April in 3-5 nights, depending on where we stop. Any recommendations for a nice new hotel/motel/ or a particularly interesting location? No children with us. THANK YOU!!!

We always stopped in Florence, SC. Lots of motels, lousy restaurants, no local interest. Happily, we don't make the trip anymore.

Stop at Kinston, NC and eat here -

The Hampton Inn is decent.

If you are taking 3-5 nights, wander a bit and go here too -

Stop and spend the night in Savannah. Eat at the Pink House.
Spend another night in Savannah.
The next day drive north and eat lunch in Whiteville.
Finish the short drive to Kinston and eat dinner.
Finish the drive the next day - 8 hour drive.

That's a very good restaurant route.

Near Kinston is also Goldsboro where you could run in and get some BBQ to go from Wilber's or Scott's Bbq--historic BBQ restaurants dating from the 20's.

Actually also at the Florence/Darlington exit off I95 there is an excellent place to buy delicious pecans in all forms, particularly double dipped in chocolate--Young's pecans. There is also a farmer's market just down the road about a mile.

As often as I go, I've never eaten at Wiley's.
NC has great BBQ too.

Forgot about Crook's Corner -

Go there for fantastic shrimp and grits or other amazing food.

Although I really like the Pink House's take on shrimp and grits...

Second to Starr's recommend for Kinston and the Chef and the Farmer (but be sure to make reservations)!
