driving into Alexandria & hotel

We are attending a convention in DC for a few days but would like to stay 1 or 2 nights in Alexandria first. We will have a car and an elderly mom. There is no need to stay near the metro, but I would like to be in old town as to keep the walking back to the hotel at a minimum....elderly mom might need a nap mid day. Thx. KC

I am assuming you want to stay in the historic part of Alexandria. In that case I'd choose the Holiday Inn (Historic District). It's right in the center of things. Garage parking for your car. Shuttle to the Metro if you need it. It was getting a bit threadbare in places a couple of years back, but I've heard they're renovated the rooms. Can't beat the location. Runs about $100 to $120 a night but I've seen it advertised on Quikbook for $89.

More upscale is the Morrison House Hotel. Same amenitie. pricier ($200 and up) but way more luxurious.

The Holiday Inn (Select, I think) on King Street in Old Town is a good choice. My office in Old Town used it when business guests were coming in from out of town.

Another vote for the Holiday Inn Select. Husband and I stayed there last year and were pleased with the room, amenities, service, etc. Centrally located in Old Town to restaurants, sightseeing, etc. Shuttle to Metro takes about 10 minutes maximum.

The Holiday Inn on King Street, as others have said, is a terrific choice. You leave the hotel you are surrounded by restaurants and shops. You may want to look on Lodging.com and see if you can find a low rate.

If money isn't an issue, I'd definitely go with the Morrison House.

Has anyone stayed at the Hampton Inn / Alexandria Old Town, on King St., near the Metro?
