Driving Boston to Atlantic City, which route?

We're leaving this Friday for Atlantic City area from the Boston area and I'm looking at mapquest and and GPS directions and they're telling me to take I-95 through CT and NYC over the GW bridge. I've gone that way once, about 20 years ago and am concerned about traffic. Should I go I-84 to 287 over the Tappan Zee as I'm being told I should? I do have a EZPass transponder, so that should help a bit.

The route via the Tappan Zee is my own preference for that trip. You'll encounter lots of traffic on a Friday either way; leave Boston as early as possible.

Definitely take 84 to 287. It'll save at least a half hyour.

Thank you, I appreciate the confirmation of taking the Tappan Zee vs. the GWB. Another question, when I get to Perth Amboy, the most direct route South looks like Rt. 9, should I take that and get back on the GSP further South or stay on the GSP?
