Downtown Hotels

Hello: I am in need of a hotel room for one weekday in Portland next wk. before departing for the No. coast. I wanted to be in the downtown Portland area so I can sightsee a little, but the cost of a room is $$$. Is the Lake Oswego too far/inconvenient from downtown Portland?
I searched for NW ( Nob Hill/ Pearl district) but there too the rooms are costly. Just wanted opinions on a safe, tourist friendly area other than downtown.
I will have a car rental.
Thanks for all your past help with plans.
Best regards.

What's your idea of "too costly"? Over $200? Over $150?

Yikes. I checked Northrop Station which we used to book for about $150 and I find it is $479 next week. I hope somebody has a suggestion for you. If they don't, I trust brands such as Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, and Residence Inn to be safe.

Lake Oswego is just fine it is only about a 15 minute drive into downtown. There are a handful of hotels right at the I-5/217 interchange including a Pheonix Inn, Courtyard, and then the Grand Hotel at Bridgeport.

I would check the Travel Portland website. They have lodging posted for all over the city and there is also a number so you can call and talk to a real person.
