xx.xxxx, Some posts do that , but Nina's landed safely in Massachusetts' form (it didn't show up in Iowa's, so I think she posted it correctly!)
Nina, don't know about the rooms, but that location appears to be in the Theater district. A good location if you plan on seeing a show or two while you're there. What attractions are you looking for?

The hotel is only a couple of years old, and it abuts the New England Medical Center. Don't worry about the sirens, the windows are thermapane. The hotel is quite close to the Boston Common, a 20 minute walk to Copley Square, and you will have plenty of choices for restaurants, especially if you like Chinese food, as you're practically in Chinatown. Otherwise, for another restaurant, try Jacob Wirth's and make sure that you go to Finale for dessert.
The hotel itself is a decent 3 star, and the rooms are comparable to the other Doubletrees in Boston and Cambridge.

We had a positive experience at this hotel in December. Easy to reach via the T from the airport and easy to get to Amtrak by T for trip to NYC. Just be careful of the minibar. Everytime my chilren opened the door we were charged (later dismissed) about $2.00. Use the small frige in the room or the soda machine down the hall. Bath & Body soaps were nice.

Thanks for all the info!
Jen....how were the rooms? There are going to be four of us (adults) staying there. Since we are staying for a week, we just don't want it to be too cramped! Does anyone know the history of this place? I heard it used to be a high school.

I stayed at a doubletree in new jersey last weekend. The original assigned room was a disaster but they changed me after i had a fit. Its part of the Hilton chain, i think. The hotel was booked solid. The room was ok. I thought they were starting to look like they needed a make over.

We stayed at the DT in June after getting a great price thru Priceline. I really liked the convenience of the T proximity.
We asked for an upgrade but ended up with only a larger room (not as big as a suite though). Big king size bed, long hallway to the bathroom. I thought the room was fine (it's not the westin but a ton better than the holiday inn!)

The Doubletree Downtown is a block east of the theater district, next door to New England Medical Center (if you're light sleepers, you may notice the sirens all night long). There's a subway stop nearby. The area to the east and north are still undergoing "renewal". The rooms are not huge, but not cramped either. It's a fairly new hotel, so the furnishings and decor reflect that. I would not recommend wandering home from the north or east after dark, but from the west (Back/Bay, Copley) is fine. I don't recall that this hotel has mini-bars in the rooms (but the Doubletree Guest Suites do). There are three Doubletree Hotels in "Boston" - one downtown, one on Soldiers Field Road in Allston (sometimes noted as Cambridge) and another in South Boston, not to be confused with the South End. Make sure you know which you are reserving.

I stayed in the Doubletree last year on a wonderful trip to the states from the UK. We found that the hotel was is walking distance to everywhere, we even walked all the way down to the harbour, bit tiring but we didn't have a clue of distances. Don't be fooled by the swimming pool though, you have to go via a roof terrace to get there and it is a public pool and was not very nice. Other than that, we found the rooms comfortable, although not large, also liked the shampoo etc in the bathroom, we had a really great meal in Magiano's Italian restaurant in the Theatre district - all in all a good first time choice for our visit to Boston. P.S. I didn't hear any sirens going off, but then again my jet lag was so bad that I was either zonked out or wide awake anyway.

Nina, We had four adults but two of those were teens who didn't care where they slept. The one bedroom had a king bed but the living room had a queen pull out sleeper. They actually slept one one the couch, the other on the floor. Please remember that these sleepers can be uncomfortable. Yes, there was a small kitchenette (micro, sink, and refrigerator AND the expensive minibar. The above poster was correct about the pool. Don't have any great expectations with that. I am a very light sleeper and did not hear the sirens. All and all, it worked very well for us and the price was right. They even let us check in at 7AM after arriving on a red eye from the west coast. We walked everywhere (including Chinatown for dinner) and never felt unsafe. Hope this helps.
