Personally, I don't understand the necessity of a TV on a domestic flight. Have we forgotten how to read? Every time I fly jetBlue I leave the darn little TV OFF the entire flight.

I'm with you, Dan... a TV is a nice surprise but not really a deal breaker.
I have all sorts of stuff to keep me busy. Reading, iPod, laptop, sleep.

No, no problems with SW, and I've flown them many times. The issue with seat assignment...well, if it's critical to you, by all means pay extra for the service with another airline.

One of the things I've always enjoyed about SW is that their employees are quite efficient, but seem to be a little more laid back and possessed of a greater sense of humor than most other airlines I've experienced. It can make for a more amusing flight.
