Type of aircraft: M11

When making my reservations to Rome, I noticed that the type of aircraft I will be flying is an M11. Does anyone have infromation on the size of this type of plane?

Emma,
An M11 aircraft is a McDonnell Douglas MD11 aircraft. Widebody with 3 engines and can hold up to 400 passengers depending on seat configurations. I don't think it's considered a jumbo jet but it's large enough for a longhaul flight.

McDonnell Douglas 11. Big, 3-engine jet, typically with 9 or 10 seats across in coach. Many airlines fly them on transoceanic routes, but are slowly being replaced by the more modern and efficient Boeing 777s.

Incorrect: the MD11 is a stretched DC-10, more technologically advanced, with greater payload and range. Delta, KLM, Finnair, Swiss and Alitalia still operate them across the Atlantic, but they will soon be fased out and replaced by even more modern aircraft.

Don't think that a MD-11 is not modern. The oldest ones are around 10 years old, which is half the age of many airliners.

The airlines are replacing them with A330's and 777's because they want to save money by flying 2 engined planes instead of 3 or 4 engine planes. In theory, 2 engine planes are less safe but there has not been any crashes because of engine failure in the 15 years of ETOPS (twin engine flights over the North Atlantic).
