Disney World in August
We're planning on taking our college daughters one more time to Disnew World but
the only time available is August. We've
heard this is not only hot and humid (no
surprise) but very rainy. So is this indeed
the rainy season and a ridiculous time to go. Also any good tips on the best DW resort to stay at. Love these forums. Thanks

The Unofficial Guide to WDW is invaluable when planning a vacation to WDW. It will list average temps. and rainfall for the month of August. I wouldn't worry about rain so much as the sweltering heat! The occasional shower will be welcome! IMHO late October is the ideal time to go - and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is not-to-be-missed. I have stayed in the Contemporary, the Polynesian, and the Beach Club. My favorite is the Contemporary due to location and good restaurants. By using monorails and boats, you can avoid the buses altogether. The Wilderness Lodge and the new African-themed resort look very cool BUT are kind of remote.

Very hot, very humid, very sticky time of year in Central Florida. Thunderstorms are an everyday occurance in the late afternoon and early evenings. They rarely last very long.
The rain doesn't really effect Disney because a lot things are under shelter and most people buy a cheap yellow rain poncho and keep going.
There really is no upside to going to Disney in August but I would not let that keep me from going.
Schedule park visits in the early morning and at night. Hang out by the pool at your hotel or waterparks during high heat times (11AM-6PM).
The advantage of a lot of the rides being indoors is that they are air conditioned.
I'd go ahead and go.

We have Orlando timeshare that is last week of August. Good time for us since it is right before our kids go back to school, and Florida kids go back mid-August. Attendance in parks is a bit lighter during that time, lines a bit shorter. Yes, it is hot - so take those personal fans with mister. Don't bother with a raincoat - the showers will be over in 30 minutes or so. Don't forget the sunblock and hats. go and have fun!

I went with my mother to WDW two years ago in August. While it was hot, it was definitely not unbearable and we had no problem with the weather. There were cooling stations the parks and it was great because it was not that busy. It rained every day but only for about 1/2 hour. The rain was welcomed. Don't let the weather scare you, you are inside a lot of the time. Have a great time!

Just wanted to add to what others have said--yes, it will be hot, but bearable. Be sure to go to the parks early, take water bottles in with you, and take breaks during the afternoons--go swimming at the hotel or just take a nap.
Be sure to take crazy4Hawaii's advice and read the Unofficial Guide--it's so helpful! Another great source of information is www.mousesavers.com. You will find lots of information about saving money while at Disney. This website always has good hotel offers.
Staying on Disney property is nice, but expensive, and there really are some great hotels "off-property" that will save you lots of money and still allow you to have a good time. I always thought I had to stay on-property but tried the Radisson a few years ago and loved it. It was a short and easy drive to the parks, plus it was nice to save a little $ down there.
