Disney World Advice please!

Hi! My husband and I are going to be in Orlando for 5 nights, planning to do one day Kennedy Space Centre and 3 days in Disney World. I don't know where to stay! Totally confused as to which part of Orlando is closest to WDW. Are there any hotels within walking distance of Epcot, MGM or Animal Kingdom entrance gates? Looking to spend around USD$50-70, any good ones in this price range? Hesitant to use Priceline...

Right now Disney is running a special and you can stay in a value resort on disney property for that rate. Check out www.disneyworld.com

I don't know that you can walk to any of the Disney properties.

We just booked a 3 night stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We originally we're going to book it through the Disney website. But, my wife found the exact same room level on Expedia for about $300 a night versus the $500 that Disney was charging directly.

While that sounds above the budget you've decided on, as the previous poster said, Disney has several value resorts that offer much better prices.

Otherwise, I'd suggest checking something like Expedia. All the hotels they show can be mapped for proximity to Disney. I'm sure several may even have shuttle buses to the park.

You can stay at the Swan or Dolhin resorts and there is a nice boat that takes you right to Epcot. They have shuttles to get you to the other parks. Animal Kingdon Lodge is right next to Animal Kingdom- not sure if you have to shuttle or can walk, but some of the rooms are on the savannah where the animals graze. But those are pricey and outside your range- unless you have Starwood points because the Swan and DOlphin are Starwood properties. For your rate, you might want to check the hotels briehon suggests- if you can get on Disney property for that rate, that's really great. If that doesn't work, there are many hotels within 2-3 miles of Disney, right on 192, that have shuttles

Janalee, The only hotels that are in walking distance to any of the parks are the Disney deluxe hotels or the Swan and Dolphin. Disney value hotels (All-stars, and Pop-century) may be within your price range but cannot walk to any park from there. There are no hotels off disney property that are even remotely close enough to walk. The areas off property you should look at are Lake Buena Vista (Close to downtown disney), Kissimmee/192 (more budget hotels but requires a car), International Drive area (lots of choices but requires a bit of a drive). Hope this helps.

janelee, it saves alot of time staying on site at Disney, there are lots of free shuttles that take you to all the areas of the park. We stayed at one of the value resorts on site for about $70 a night. You might want to do a search here on Disney for more info.

Disneyworld is approximately the same size as the state of Rhode Island, so very few things are in walking distance from each other.

If you stay on Disney property you get to the various parks by monorail or boat or (most often) bus. As another poster mentioned, due to the size of the place, walking anywhre is impracticle. Besides, you'll do plenty of walking once you get inside the parks...

Mousesavers.com.

They always have discount codes. I got Disney's Pop Century Resort next week for $49 a night.

We were very happy with our stay at the Radisson Parkway/Kissimee out on Rte 192 only a few miles to the entrances and I pretty sure they provide shuttles but we did have a rental car. The rates were reasonable back in April. I go the information from intercot.com

Many, many Kissimmee hotels in the vicinity of Disney World offer shuttle buses several times a day from the hotel to the entrance of the parks. Shuttles from the on-Disney-property hotels are probably more frequent and more convenient but if price is an issue for the Disney hotels, be sure to search the Kissimee hotels off-property too.

Also check allearsnet.com. They have photographs of the interiors and exteriors of the on-site hotels. Also, the Unofficial Guide to WDW lists all the area hotels and rates them by quality, value, convenience, etc. Some of the offsite hotels are physically closer to some of the parks than the onsite hotels.

Stay ON the property if you possibly can, especially if you can get it at a discount..it is worth your money and the time savings for not having to wait for all those "shuttles from off-site hotels," not having to drive into the place, not having to park, etc., etc.

Up to you...you get what you pay for.

We stayed at All Star Movies, and it was real handy. Shuttle from airport that stopped at grocery store, then shuttles all day long to & from all the parks! It was convenient, and for a week we didn't have a need for the rental car! They have food courts, which are pricey, but it's good food! We were there in the "off" season, November 1-8. Have a great time at WDW!!

Disney World is advertising rates for their on-site resorts:

$55 for Value (ALL STARS)
$85 for their moderates and
$164 for their Deluxe resorts.

They also accept AAA which shaves off another 10%.

I think there is a Days Inn which is very inexpensive and located right outside the resorts.

My advice is to stay onsite if at all possible. If you can get one of sale the rates mentioned above, do it.

Go to disboards.com - tons of info there.
