I am going to NYC in January. Is there anyway to get discounted tickets for perfomances at Carnegie Hall?

Performanes of what? Maybe if something not very popular - but not likely.

It MIGHT have happened in the past, but I'm not aware of it.

I don't consider those "real" discounts, but rather discounts with an asterisk attached!
Don't expect to see the "regular" type of discounts available at TKTS or on broadwaybox.com and playbill.com

What's not "real" about them?

Our Met Opera season began this past Saturday afternoon with a suitably monumental Aïda, of an era when it was acceptable for the singers to stand solidly and stolidly and belt out the arias and ensembles. Our Aïda (Urmana), Amneris (Zajick) and Radames (Botha) together might have required the stage to be reinforced; thus, very little movement going on. Triumphal March animal census: five horses, no elephants. The circus must be out of town.

Next up, in November, the Zeffirelli Turandot, after which we'll all leave the Met humming "Nessun Dorma."

We have exchanged out of the undoubtedly to-be-short-lived, almost universally reviled new production of Tosca later in the season, preferring to watch it on PBS. Instead, we'll be attending the new Bartlett Sher Le Contes d'Hoffmann in January.

To explain why I say those discounts are not "real." (And, note the quotation marks around the word "real.")
That website lists five special offers, only one of which allows the general public the option of getting "regular" seats at a discount price.
The first offer is for partial view seats.
The second is for rush seats.
The third is a special for students only.
The fourth is a special membership offer for people in their 20s and 30s only.
To me, those four have an asterisk attached to the offers.
The fifth one provides a 10% discount for Bank of America credit card holders. OK, that's a discount offer without the asterisk. But, a 10% discount offer doesn't come close to the discounts available for other performing arts venues in the city.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not criticizing Carnegie Hall management. Hey, it's great that they can sell out without major discount offers. I just want to point out that chances of major ticket discounts for Carnegie Hall performances are hard to come by.

bspielman, I love the Zeffirelli Turandot, so spectacular! And Tales of Hoffman should be good, I've heard good things about Calleja who replaced Villazon. As for Bartlett Sher, he's done such a wonderful job with Barbiere, I have high hopes for his Hoffman. Wish I could go see it at the Met.
