Dinner in Norman & Stillwater OK, Manhattan KS and Fayettevile, AR

Going on a college visit trip with my daughter. Visiting OU, Oklahoma State, K State and U of Arkansas. Can anyone suggest decent places to eat dinner near each campus (hopefully not chains)?

Well most folks consider Eskimo Joes in Stillwater as a must. AQ chicken is an institution in Fayetteville. For OU The Greek House and Van's Pig Stand are the originals. We go to Fayetteville a lot. There is everything from The Catfish Hole, to Hugo's(burgers), and The Mill(upscale). Strangely, we like Shoguns in Fayetteville it is just better than the others. can't help you with Kansas.

I live in Oklahoma right near Arkansas line(FT Smith). If you happen to be hikers, just east of UA is some of the best undiscovered hiking in the US. Tons of seasonal waterfalls. Arkansas has great State Parks and the Buffalo River.

Are you looking for lunch, dinner, upscale or what?

Any more ideas for Norman, OK? We are there now and not really in the mood for BBQ or gyros.

Big Truck Taco is excellent. About a block down from it is Cuppies and Joes- cupcakes and coffee. Big Truck is actually in a building now. Irma's Burger Shack has good burgers. Cattlemans steakhouse has really good calf fries(testicles in case you don't know).

If you go to big truck get the deep fried avacodo taco. most of the tacos are small(you would want two or three of them). the white bean dip is kinda like a mexican hummus. The quesadillas are large.

Don't go to the Buffalo River as I suggested earlier, it is to hot and waterfalls won't be running very good. Mount Magazine State Park would be a good place this weekend. Tons of Butterflies, but it would be very hot.

The Mill is good in Fayetteville. also an Italian place called Mary Maestri's just outside of Fayetteville in a place called Tontitown.

If you happen to like peaches, stop for peaches in Porter,OK or Spiro, OK. Some of the best peaches you will ever eat. You can pick them or they will just sell them to you. Closer to the first of July, they will have the white peaches. Spiro, is where I live. Population 2000.
