river cafe, brooklyn from gramercy park

what is the best way to get to and from the river cafe and gramercy park? if you walk the bridge, how far is it from once you get on the brooklyn side? are there cabs available to take back? does the food/atmosphere live up to it's rep?
thanks!

The food is not absolutely the best in the city - but is very good, esp for the price. What you're really going for is the view - of all of Manhattan lit up at night.

I would simply cab back and forth - who wants to arrive at a fine restaurant hot, dusty and sweaty?

Out of those choices the River Cafe by a longshot; why are you even considering the other two?

It's not that far. So the cost of the cab is minimal compared to the cost of the dinner (prix fixe dinner for 2 with drink or relatively modest wine, tax and tip will be in excess of $250).

nytraveler...thanks. i know i shouldn't worry about cab fare if i really want it to be special! ;-)

ekscrunchy...just want a quintessential new york place. i've done gramercy tavern, union square cafe, one if by land, peter lugar, etc...etc... any other ideas? could even be a small, cute place with out of this world food.

There's a place called Zerza near my apartment in the E. Village that is quite good. They have belly-dancing, etc. Look them up on www.menupages.com
