We are seeing 3 plays on W. 43rd and West 45th---any suggestions for any type of food, mid range in price? We want to be in that vicinity.

If you like Mexican, Tolache on West 50th is good.

I like Joe Allen's. Nice atmosphere, nice folks, midrange and a decent selection, if you don't want "ethnic."

My favorite is the West Bank Cafe at 42nd and 9th.

West Bank Café and Marseille were two of our go to places when visiting both very good. The past couple of visits we’ve ventured over to the wilds of 10th street that is getting to be a happening food scene. We’ve particularly liked The Marshall and a bit further up 10th Taboon. Both wood fired kitchens, but very different cuisine. Taboon pricier, but more upscale environs.

Near the theater district, we've liked Basera, China Green, El Centro, Kashkeval Gardens, and Pongsri Thai.

we had one of the worst meals ever there last night. The place is very noisy and the food was below average. Huge portions of tasteless

I've eaten at Marseille before and thought it was just mediocre. It was extremely noisy for one thing, but they think they are French and can't even spell basic French culinary terms correctly on their menu, which means no one French works there (who is literate, anyway) and they didn't even bother to look the terms up. For example, they use the phrases "la petite plateau" or "tart aux pommes" on their printed menu. And their wine is bad, when there is such great cheap French wine (not even sure they have French wine, don't recall, but their cheaper wines weren't good). I did think they had good frites, though, and the steak was ok. I just didn't like the noise and the wine.

Why, Why,, Why did you go to Tony diNapoli? I'm so sorry about that....we could have warned you away as you sound like a pretty circumspect diner from other posts in the past.

Interesting. It seems to get good reviews across a number of sites. But reviewers also noted that it is quite noisy and the servings are family style. And it does look like pretty basic, traditional Italian food -nothing too adventurous. What made you choose it in the first place? What did you order?

I chose it based on some reviews. Knew it was a mistake the minute I walked in. We have had wonderful food except for that. Ate at Alimentari IL Bucco in SoHo and loved.
