Dining at Ala Moana Shopping Mall

We are planning to use some of our precious Honolulu time at Ala Moana and I am wondering if any one has any favorite places to eat in the mall, negatives or positives that will enlighten me-thanks in advance

We were there a couple of years ago--wall to wall people!! So it was a pleasant surprise when we found Bubba Gumps and were seated at an unobstructed oceanview table! I didn't know that was possible in a mall (I'm from rural MO and don't get out much I guess) and the food was good, but pricey for what you get (again, I'm from rural MO)

Anyway, I think I got the location right.

It's not fancy, but you can't beat the food court in the bottom level of the mall. All kinds of choices for some very good food!

These are some of the places I like to eat when I go to Ala Moana (I'm usually there for lunch):

Sit down places:
Genki Sushi - casual/inexpensive sushi place where the sushi comes around on a belt.
Kyoto Osho - casual Japanese restaurant
Panya Bistro - casual place - sandwiches, noodles, soups, burgers, many w/Asian slant.
Mermaid Bar - casual restaurant in Neiman Marcus. Soups, sandwiches and salad kind of stuff.

Take out/fast food type places:
Curry House - Japanese style curry, you choose the toppings
Little Cafe Siam - Thai fast food.
Shirokiya - I LOVE this place, but it can add up fast as you choose from their very wide selection.

Bigger places like Bubba Gumps, Ruby Tuesday, California Pizza Kitchen and Macaroni Grill are pretty much just like their mainland counterparts.

I've been meaning to try Rokkaku, but I don't get over to Ala Moana very often.

I agree with the food court. Probably one of the best in the country.

Thanks for the link Dusty.

I had a fantastic dinner from Lahaina Chicken. It got it to-go and headed back to my Waikiki hotel via The Bus. It was enough for 2 generous meals.

If anything, breakfast (not lunch or dinner) at Longhi's, and lunch (not dinner) at Neiman Marcus' Mariposa. These have views of Ala Moana Beach Park.

I also like Panya and the Pineapple Room (Macy's). There's no view though.

My husband and I had an outstanding lunch at Longhi's at Ala Moana. We loved that it was open air with views out to the ocean, the service was pleasant, the food tasty and reasonably priced, and the iced tea, sweetened with pineapple juice, was excellent. It was the first time since I set foot on Oahu that I felt like I was really in a tropical place and not just another large city.

One of my favorite places to eat in the mall is the cafe at Nordstom. Tomato Basil soup and Asian Pear salad are two of my favs!
