I'll be in Oahu 16-19 Dec with a rental car. Any advice on how to go hike Diamond Head? What do I need to take, how to dress, how long, where to park (directions). Thanks in advance.

The map you get with the rental car will show the route to the parking lot inside the crater where you start the hike. I suggest you go in the morning as it can get very hot. Bring water. Bring a flashlight for the dark tunnels/stairs. Takes ~45min-60 to go up, less to go down, but you will want to spend time at the top enjoying the views. Trail is not rough-tennis shoes or good sandals will be fine.

Be sure to take your camera, great pictures from the top. I agree w/ Janeg on water/flashlight (we did it w/out flashlight but it would have been nice) but would say it only takes 25-40 (max) to reach the top. Enjoy!

Actually, you no longer need a flashlight....they installed lights in the tunnel. do bring a few $$ as they charge people to go up there now.
