This place has very nice views from almost every part of the restaurant, and the desserts are better than the fish.

Does it have to be in Monterey?
I'd like to suggest the outdoor patio at the Inn at Spanish Bay. ( I think it's technically in Pacific Grove... not sure.) They have fire pits with seating or tables to choose from overlooking the greens and ocean. At sunset, a bagpiper plays. It is a beautiful experience and their food is all very good with exceptional service.

The Inn at Spanish Bay is located inside Pebble Beach. There's a $10 gate fee to enter Pebble which they'll reimburse with a $30 food or beverage purchase.
Most of the dessert/coffee type places around here don't have a view and very few are open in the evening. I think it will have to be more of a bar/lounge.
The C Bar at the Clement in Monterey has an outdoor patio with fire pits http://www.thecrestaurant-monterey.com/the-c-bar.aspx They don't show a dessert menu but I'm sure you could order dessert there.
Any of the other ocean front hotel bars in Monterey would probably have good views.
You could also sit on the outdoor patio of Mission Ranch in Carmel http://www.missionranchcarmel.com/restaurant.htm

Thank you!!! The Inn at Spanish Bay sounds like a treat! I'm sure I can spend $30 pretty easily there. I think I'm going to have an early dinner at Mission Ranch and then head to The Inn at Spanish Bay for some drinks / dessert.

Obrero, they have a cigar menu as well, if you're interested!
The first time we went there we were planning to just see the bagpiper and then drive into Carmel for dinner at Casanova. We liked Spanish Bay so well that we cancelled our reservations and just stayed there for the evening. If you haven't been to either place before, you may want to look at the menu's online and scope out the properties during the day to see what your preference might be. Don't miss the bagpiper!

The patio with the fire pits is part of Roys I believe http://www.pebblebeach.com/dining/th...t-pebble-beach
The Lodge at Pebble Beach also has a restaurant called The Bench which has outdoor seating with fire pits that's very good http://www.pebblebeach.com/dining/th...each/the-bench
To be honest, I'm not a fan of the food at Mission Ranch but have only had brunch and appetizers there, not dinner. They don't take reservations and can get overrun on a nice day and the service can suffer. We go for drinks on the patio sometimes mostly for the view.
