Desperately seeking whales in MA.

We are going to Newport, RI during the middle of June.

We have tried 2 other vacations to see whales with no success. Both in Victoria and Maine.

I am determined to drive wherever needed for a successful vacation with whale pictures while on a boat.

I have read Dolphin Fleet of Provincetown is good, but are there any other suggestions not all the way to the end of the Cape.

Thanks for any advice.

Not right whales, but finback whales:

Not sure of their success rate though...

For Stellwagen Bank (Right Whales):
There's Plymouth:

Also Barnstable Harbor on the Cape:

There are also some that leave from Boston.

We went from Barnstable last June and had a few great sightings. One whale came vertical out of the water, I just managed to snap it on it's descent. A whale also came right under our boat, it was amazing.I imagined the boat would be lifted up on it's back, but thats just my vivid imagination!!
We were told that they often go under the boats to scrape the barnacles off on the hull.Don't give up, you will have your day!

For all Whale lovers: Great place for Whale Watching.
We drove for the day to Provincetown, MA which is about 2 and 1/2 hours from Newport, RI.

We had reservations with Dolphin Fleet and it was a great success. There was a mother whale and 2 calves which kept swimming under the boat. Everywhere our boat went there were whales to be seen. We went around the middle of June. When the boat stopped the whales came over to the boat.

If you go, take cash for parking.

We went to Provincetown last summer and I'm pretty sure were on the Dolphin Fleet. We must've had at least 30 sightings...some very close to the boat and some not so close, but it was constant whales for hours!

There was a supposed great white shark sighting off Martha's Vineyard this week - could you go and pretend it was a small whale?

Friends went on the whale watch out of Barnstable three weeks ago and said they saw 40-50 whales. The company guarantees you will see whales or you get a voucher for a free trip at a later date.

The P'town whale watch is easily the best I've ever been on, even though it was years ago. My brother is trying to talk me into another one when we are in MA in a couple of weeks. I do NOT want to deal with the summertime cape traffic, but reading these posts has me reconsidering ......

I too have been on 2 whale watches from Dolphin Fleet in Provincetown (1997 and 2000). Both times they were amazing. I am beginning to think that they must out "whale candy" at the bottoms of the boats!!

The great white seen off MV is freaking me out a little bit. And here I was all prepared to go out further in the ocean this summer than I ever have been to be a good example (ie, not afraid) for my kids!!

I read in the paper this morning that the so-called great white "sighting" was bogus. The man who made the charge confessed
