Day trips from Waikiki to other islands
My friend and I are travelling to Waikiki in September. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good day trips that would allow us to see something of the other islands. We arrive on the 8th and leave on the 16th but are there to attend a function on the 12th Sept. So we have four days (three days really) either side of the function to explore. I don't know if we can b e bothered to pack up and move to a different island for a day or two so I am hoping there are some day trips that could at least show us a little of the beauty of the islands. THank you.

Day trips are not really practical on your own imo. But there are tours available, like if you want to go to Big Island to see the volcano, for example.
For me personally I'd just go up around on Oahu to the North Shore and do a "circle tour" of the other beautiful beaches and smaller towns right on Oahu. That would be a lot less money and hassle.
With only 3-4 days each side of your function, I'd just stay on Oahu myself. You can see plenty of "beauty" right there, and not spend money, time, and effort seeing more taxis, airports and hotel check in & outs!

Thanks, I was hoping that there would be a reputable company that offered day trips. I will look up the Grey Line Tours and see what they offer. I see that there is a HOHO bus tour of Waikiki. Is it better to take the HOHO or the trolley bus tours? Or is it case of same/same?

The HOHO is fairly new and similar to those double-decker buses in New York where the upper level is open air. The trolley bus is also open air but looks more like the street cars you see in San Fran. I believe the HOHO travels farther around the island. The trolley pretty much stays near Waikiki, Ala Moana and downtown Honolulu. Depends on how far outside of Waikiki you want to go.
