Dallas Theater/Plays

We're visiting Dallas as I write this. Last Sunday we saw a FABULOUS play in Plano (A Chorus Line). We really enjoyed this production. Any other highly recommended plays in Dallas at the moment?? We'll be here until 9/19. Thanks, Craig

Try the following link:

Also, the Morning Snooze or the Observer may have some good suggestions

The Lion King is on in Ft Worth and then Dallas during this time period.
It will be at the Fair Park Music Hall.

is commensurate with its size. There are two or three dozen performances typically, and the website mentioned above has about 15 titles on their reccommended list.

Check out the Pegasus Theater. It's intimate, but the productions there are usually very good. Their specialty is a series of plays that spoof old detective movies.

"Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck is currently at the Dallas Theater Center.

Thanks to all...we'll keep busy for sure!

Has anyone else seen the play A Chorus Line in Plano? We thought it was very well done and especially liked the theater layout (no bad seats it appeared). If anyone else is looking for an upbeat play with great music and dancing, I would highly recommend it.

Thanks so much for great suggestions! Craig

Craig as a longtime Dallasite I would NOT consider Plano Dallas. It is the suburbs. If you want more of a true Arts scene head south to Dallas.

Although you might, Jen, Craig had no complaints about Plano's theater scene. For many years, when people asked us where we lived, we said Dallas, only because no one knew "Where the hell Plano" was. No more. He's visiting Dallas, but found something worthwhile in the Plano arts scene. We may not have an I.M. Pei designing (yet), but we do have occasional decent theater, and a "we try harder" mind set. One of these days, you may want to take a drive north of Loop 12 and see what else is here. You might even be surprised to find Plano no longer exists for, nor is it dependent upon, Dallas, Sweets.

Apparently, this has gotten off track from my original question...I actually spend a great deal of time in Dallas (probably 4 months of the year). Yes, Plano may be considered a suburb but should I ever move to this area permanently...I will certainly want to live in this area. Why all the slams?? I find Plano to be a very nice community that residents SHOULD be proud to call home. I also spend a great deal of time inside Dallas...nice, but wouldn't chose to live in the city. I enjoy my time here and I'm from downtown Boston...go figure! Craig

I saw this play in Plano last weekend with out of town guest. It was most enjoyable and it could certainly hold it's own against other major productions in any city. Check out the Dallas Morning News last week for rave reviews/a photo of the young man Schwind (? I think) who has also performed on Broadway and in Los Angeles. We're not hicks you know! Sally

The word is "tract" Jen, not track! LOL It's cool to slam Plano, Craig. Money breeds contempt. See Jen's caricature, a perfect example of the erroneous small minded view from those who never set foot north of LBJ. Glad you enjoy Plano. We moved here from Boston and love it. We've lived all around the US, but have never seen a more family oriented community than this.

You transplants think you just know everything. Most of Plano was farm land oh not so long ago. Yes I have been North of LBJ as many people I know used to own farm land there. A lot of locals dont like it because Plano is also known as a transplant magnet. Especially Yankees. You will never see this new money ever included in the REAL Dallas social scene. So go on bash Dallas bash the Park Cities because everyone knows Plano is such a joke.
