D.C. weekend itinerary for Easter weekend.
Hello: Thinking of visiting D.C. Easter wkend 2015 with my nine y/o daughter. Has anyone visited at this time of the year? I would try to get three full days in and depart on Easter Sunday back to N.Y. I would appreciate any advice on touring ideas and routes. Any tips on dining would also be helpful.
Thanks, and happy holidays to all.

Your questions are very broad. Of course people have visited at that time of year - people visit at all times of year.
I think the "what to see" discussion is well-covered territory and you probably already know a lot of the sites or you wouldn't be going to DC. A guidebook and a map would be very helpful.

Obviously jrsaf is not familiar or she would not be asking......I would suggest you go online and google things for kids in DC. You will get a lot of info--also some attractions or museums are not open on holidays or Saturdays (like Bureau of Engraving) Air and Space is highly visited

I live here so I've done it! It's a fine time, why not. It isn't one of those holidays that tourists flock to DC for it, but it is Cherry Blossom Festival time and the place is packed with tourists for that. It is during the same time frame. Here is an event list.

BUt the final parade isn't until the next weekend, so it won't be as bad as then, I suppose.
I don't know of any attraction or museum that is closed because of the Easter HOliday. MOst only close for a few holidays a year, the real big ones (like CHristmas or NY day).
Because of the Cherry Blossom festival, if you want to do this, you'd better get cracking on booking a hotel, though. Stay in a hotel close to a metro stop and/or near the Mall so you could walk to the museums. Penn Quarter area would be good for those and dining, there is a Kimpton there. Big and basic but convenient location is the Marriott downtown near Freedom Plaza. There is also a HOliday Garden Inn near McPherson Square which isn't too far form the white house. ANy hotel around Dupont Circle or Embassy Row will be convenient.

I also live here and would say that the museums and attractions will be packed over the Easter weekend because of: 1) holiday weekend, 2) Spring Break for the locals and many other schools in the country, 3) Cherry Blossom Festival.
I'm not saying you should not come, but you should be aware that it's a very busy time of year.
