D.C. Hotel & Itinerary

I am going to Maryland to visit a friend and thought I would check out D.C. (first time). I am looking for a nice budget hotel in the Dupont Circle area or other fun area (budget = under $100). Also, any suggestions for stuff to do, I'll be traveling solo and there from Thursday afternoon to Fri. late afternoon at the end of May. I will be traveling by train and not renting a car. Thanks!

Jen, I don't know how many budget hotel choices there are in the immediate Dupont Circle area and in looking at some of my favs, I'm not seeing any steals in your price range. One really notable deal on www.quikbook.com was the State Plaza Hotel, which in the Foggy Bottom area near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It's not too far to the metro station and that will give you access to museums, Dupont Circle, etc. Check it out. I've stayed there and while I'll admit that I prefer Dupont Circle, it's a great value for the rate -- you can even cab it a few places with the savings!

While it is not in Dupont Circle, it is also not far away: Try the Lincoln Suites. Anyone I know who has stayed there give it good marks.

Some friends got a $99 rate.

I live in the area and cannot give personal reviews of the hotels, because I stay at my house not a DC hotels.

Try priceline for hotels in DC. Tourism is hurting, so I expect you would get a pretty good break on a nice hotel.

The Radisson Barcelo, which has HUGE rooms, often has a $99 special, so check out their web site. I've gotten rates nder $100 at the Best Western New Hampshire Suties (between Foggy Bottom and Dupont) for under $100, too. Otherwise, I second the recommendation for Priceline.
