Washington, D.C. Jurys Washington or Crowne Plaza
I'm taking a 15, 13 and 12 year old for a few days to Washington, D.C. As my husband is unable to travel with us I'm doing this as a single parent. Would Jurys Washington or Crowne Plaza be a better place for us to stay. I stayed just outside of Dupont Circle 5 years ago but don't remember alot about the area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

There are multiple Jury's and CP properties in the DC area. If you mean Jury's Dupont Circle, the area is convenient to the metro and there are lots of restaurants nearby. If you mean the Hamilton CP at 14th and K, it is closer to the Mall and monuments but the immediate area is pretty much offices and a day time type neighborhood. A nice hotel - I stay there often - but with the kids Dupont might be a beeter choice.

I don't know those two hotels but my family of 4 enjoyed the Embassy Suites near Dupont Circle last summer. The rooms are nice and there is quite a bit of room for your family to spread out (also breakfast is included.)
Have a great trip!

Sorry, Jurys Washington at Dupont Circle and Crowne Plaza at 14th and K.
I found these hotels through expedia and priceline and then went to the hotel's websites. Because I work for an airline we have to travel standby and so I can't take advantage of the low prices that are non-refundable. My main concern is a safe area to walk around at night, (to prevent hotel boredom fights) and somewhere that has lots of family restaurants. I'll check out Embassy Suites as well. Thanks

Jury's Washington at Dupont - hands down!
There is heavy pedestrian traffic in the Dupont at all hours, whereas the Hamilton CP area is more shutdown the later it gets. Also, there are no family style restaurants in the Hamilton CP area whereas the dining options in the Dupont neighborhood are endless.

We'll only be there for 3 nights (arriving on a late evening flight) so we can handle a smaller room for a short ammount of time. I like the idea of Dupont Circle more and more after all of the suggestions and comments.
It looks like we'll be staying at Jurys Washington. Now, since I have your attention, we are taking the train to New York City when we leave Washington. Any ideas for me?? I have been reading that it can be hard to get two seats together and I'll need four. My girls would probably prefer not to sit with "their mom" but my 12 year old son would be very uncomfortable having to sit with a stranger for that long. Thanks again

I don't think this is that big of a deal. You can see if your train originates in NYC or Boston. Obviously, originating in NYC is better. I take the train a lot and I'm actually surprised by how often I never have people sitting next to me. If you don't leave during rush times (Fridays and Sundays, early mornings and around 5 or 6). If you left around noon during the week, you'd be fine.

No, I walk by it frequently as I live about 3 blocks from there. My husband walks by it everyday on his way to Metro. I will tell him to take a look. We spent a lot of time watching them take out the windows because we thought it might be a great fit for us when we start looking for a house or condo in the next few months.
