Current foliage in White Mountains?
From past experience, I don't trust the fall foliage hotline. I know the peak is normally early October, but how does the foliage look right now? Would you say this weekend will be the peak or (because of the strange fall weather this year) the weekend of Oct 13-14? Thanks!

I would say that peak would be the w/e of Oct. 13-14. Here in RI, the leaves are still green, and the temps hit the low 80's today. We normally like to do some "Fallish" activities for Columbus Day weekend....like apple picking. However, this year, we may just scrap those plans and head for the beach!

I'm in Maine and next week looks like it'll be very close to peak for us. The trouble is the trees are so thursty that the leaves are just falling off, but if we get a good rain storm that will knock the leaves off too. I'm afraid it's going to be one of those years when foliage just isn't that great.
Hopefully someone from NH will wiegh in.

Here are some webcams that might help. Make sure to check that you are seeing a live vs. a saved image.

Your going tomorrow? I just returned from an overnight trip to Keene, NH. In the low lying sountern areas there is'nt too much color, however the higher elevation of Keene and Dublin are beautiful. Things change daily this time of year. Have fun!

We spent one night in Twin Mountain and another in Portland, Maine (not to see foliage.) Parts of the Kancamagus were past peak, but it was a beautiful ride as always. The rest of the area was definitely at peak foliage, and was the most spectacular I've seen in a few years. As adnil1962 mentioned, the Jackson area was great, and we had fun trying to locate most of the "Pumpkin People" exhibits.
We usually like to go one weekend earlier, but had no problems with traffic except in the parking areas of the Kanc. North Conway was slow to drive through, but not much different than we've encountered any other fall weekend.
