Creepy New Hampshire Hero
OK, this creeped me and my kids out, but had a happy ending.
I took the boys to Freeport, Maine for the 4th of July weekend.
Mr. Wonderful had a business presentation, so he was AWOL as usual.
I'd leave him but he makes good money and he DOES love our boys, but that's another story.
So, we are heading back to Newport, VT. We got a late start home, it always takes longer to break camp and pack the blazer than it does to set up. It's about 9:30 and we are somewhere on the kangamangus (sp?) highway. It looked like a shorter route than 302 from Conway. It is raining and dark and the roads are winding and slick, so I am driving like 30mph.
Suddenly, the rig starts pulling to the right, and it gets worse. Then I hear the thump-thump-thump of a flat tire. "SHooT", the spare is under all our gear, the boys are nearly asleep in the back seat and I REALLY don't need this. As I pull over as far as the road allows and stop, I'm cussing out the old man under my breath. I sat waiting for the rain to let up or the tire to magically re-inflate when I hear a rumbling noise like an earthquake.
Then I see a single light coming down the road toward me. It turns out to be a VERY loud motorcycle, and it's pulling over. Thoughts of all the biker horror movies I've ever seen run through my head. I lock the doors and shrink back in my seat.
Then this big guy in a leather vest comes over and knocks on my window. He say's 'sit tight and pop the hatch'. I think 'are you crazy' as he takes off his vest and sticks a magnetized flashlight to the side of the blazer that shines on the flat tire. I figure, what else can I do? I push the button and pop the hatch.
Somehow, the 'biker' lifts the spare hatch with all our camping gear on top and pulls out the jack and spare tire. Long story short, in 10 minutes the flat is in the wheel well and he closes the hatch. I'm thinking 'what kind of 'reward' is he going to expect.
Then, weirdest of all, he walks back to his motorcycle, puts on his leather vest, starts up and pulls around heading my way and just drives away. No goodby or anything.
Later, I thought it strange that he went back the way he came after fixing my flat. A bit perplexed, I pulled the blazer onto the road and the rest of the trip back home to Newport was uneventful.
I told a couple friends about it and the also thought 'weird'. So, I'm wondering if this is like some New Hampshire version of Batman, riding around helping people in distress or am I nuts.
The only features I remember were he had a loud motorcycle and wore a black vest with a 'grim reaper' reaching out from the back, and it was blue. I remember watching it riding away in my headlights. Can anybody enlighten me about this character or should I call SWAT?
Thanks,
MOM

A few years ago I was at a deli getting coffee on my way to work. I was feeling cute, cuz I had just bought this new outfit. I'm getting my coffee and this gigantically tall bald biker looking guy walks up behind me and touches my back. He whispers in my ear "now, don't freak out". I freeze like a deer in the headlights. He suddenly yanks off the PRICE TAG that had been hanging down the back of my cute new outfit! Haha. I think he knew he looked intimidating, but wanted to do a good deed (which I was so grateful for btw). So maybe your biker man felt the same.

Good point, I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.
He DID help us out, it just seemed odd that he drove after away without a word.
btw, my sister has an account on here, so I visit often, just never got my own account but she didn't want this story associated with hers.

Many years ago my boyfriend and I were driving from the northeast to Florida when the car died in North Carolina. Biker dude pulls up behind us and we're a little freaked out because we were Northeast college hippies (long hair and all). He opened the hood, figured out what was wrong, fixed it, and we were on our way. He did accept our thanks, however, but nothing more. I've tried not to judge a book by its cover ever since.

what didn't make sense in the story was the biker was coming toward them but when he was finished, he went back the way he came. Although it's possible he had passed them, noticed the trouble and turned around to help.
There's a huge Harley Davidson dealer in Meredith. Who knows. It could have been the dealership owner who might be quite well to do.

OK , first off you may be the creepiest part of this story !" You would leave him except he makes good money" !!!??? REALLY !!
And then you are going to judge a guy because he is a biker in leather ... WOW how scary. My husband and I are bikers , I wear leather when I'm on the back of our bike. We are professional people who have people who love us , moms , dads , kids , we donate to charities (do you money bags)? Our motorcycle is our second mode of transportation , its our toy and may be worth more then the car you are driving. Please if you read this , DO NOT JUDGE . This big scary biker may have saved your life and the life of your kids. There is much scarier things and people out there than bikers.

Annabellamarie likely found the thread when she was doing some sort of search for "biker" but I'm curious what her other search terms were.
It's sort of like how Fodors threads come up high on a Google search for everybody who hates a particular rental car company or a particular rent-the-living-room-couch company.
