We haven't stayed there yet, but we heard good things - and, for our budget, the location and price could not be matched.

This is late, but hopefully it will be helpful. We stayed at Lahaina Shores Beach Condominiums, and it was really great. It's on the far east end of Front Street, the main drag in Lahaina. I believe it was less than $200 / night for a mountain view studio. It was very clean, in a nice building, had air conditioning, and has a pool on the grounds. They were also renovating the lobby when we were there. My in laws were there more recently and said the construction was finished and looked great. There is also a little beach but it wasn't anything to write home about. We were very happy with this place.

On our two trips to Maui in 2007, we stayed at the Aina Nalu condos in Lahaina.
The two bedroom/two bathroom condo that we rented in January 2007 was $170 per night plus a $200 deposit; we rented directly from the owner through VRBO. We had to send a check to the owner and our reservation was non-refundable. The condo was wonderful! It appeared to be brand new. One bedroom had a queen bed and the other had a king; there is also a sleeper sofa in the living room. The kitchen was fully-equipped. The two bathrooms had gorgeous stone showers (no tubs). The guest bathroom had a washer and dryer. The condo had separate air-conditioning units for the two bedrooms and the living room. There were three televisions in the condo.
This condo was not available when we returned in April (two weeks ago) and we needed flexibility in our reservation (we ended up changing it from five nights to three nights due to a family situation). We booked directly with the Aina Nalu website; we reserved a one bedroom, one bath condo for around $160 (no deposit required and we were able to cancel or change our reservation with no penalty). When we checked-in, we were upgraded to a two bedroom/two bath unit; it was virually identical to the other condo with the same amenities. However, this condo had daily maid service.
Parking is an additional $10 per day but still cheaper than paying the public parking rates at the Lahaina lots.
The condo complex is staffed twenty-four hours per day. It is still being renovated; it used to be the Ohana Maui Islander and is being transformed into condos.
We wanted to be near the Lahaina Harbor since we spent almost all of our time in Maui whalewatching. The location was perfect for us because we were a five-minute walk from the harbor.

I would not recommend staying at Puamana Resort/Condos. We stayed in a condo that was filthy, dirty bedding, accomodations were not what was advertised, mold, mold and more mold. The Air Conditioners did not work properly and smelled awful when turned on. Whalers Realty (rental agency) was very difficult to deal with. Calls were not returned regarding the problems we had. Spend your hard earned money at another resort

As pespi66 is touting for that condo, you can assume it is a real dog and unrentable without resorting to deceiving posts.
I know a family who stayed at Puamana last year and loved it. They certainly did not have any of the <dubious> experiences that HawaiiSun mentions.
