Coffee in Chelsea - NYC
We will be attending an event late Saturday morning/early afternoon on 5/10 at the Metropolitan Pavilion on 18th St. btwn 6th & 7th. After the event we would like to go for coffee and unfortunately this is not a day that we have the luxury of a leisurely stroll to just stumble upon something. I welcome your suggestions for coffee shops (not Starbuck's) in the area where we can sit down and enjoy a coffee or cappuccino. Certainly don't mind a little walk as long as we have a destination in mind. I know there is a le Pain Quotidien on 7th but would like some other options too. Thanks in advance.

City Bakery at 3 W. 18th Street between 5th and 6th Ave. is the first thing to come to mind . . .
Petite Abeille- 44 W. 17th Street between 5th and 6th - a sweet little belgian place, a local minichain - not really a chain, in that the owners still work in the places and are very hands on.
or if you want to indulge in some of the best pastry in NYC, walk over to Le Bergamote - 169 9th Avenue between 19th and 20th - small, but REALLY good . . .

Just wanted to let you know we went to Petite Abeille - thank you for the suggestion! The coffees were very good, as were the almond croissants, cute atmosphere, nice servers. It was very loud in there though which I totally understand because it was a small space and it was packed on Saturday afternoon, but the blaring music didn't help any!
We enjoyed our "break" and I would certainly go back to PA. Thanks!!

I think of Bergamote as an evil magnet luring me toward diet doom . . . .
Actually, the chocolate and hazelnut pastries are my husband's favorite! They also make very good croissants.
Glad petite abeille worked out Margo - yeah the noise factor is a reall consideration these days - it's getting harder and harder to find a quiet place to talk in this neighborhood, particularly on the weekends . . .
