Clearwater Beach VACA

Hi,
I need sugestions for a vacation April 11th for 5 nights. I currently have reservations at the Adam's Mark at an average rate of $87.00 a night with the entertainment card(city view). I am not against canceling these though. My wife in a need a nice break. We definately are flying in to Tampa but are open to other suggestions. I would appreciate any imput on this. For the same dates the Hilton AAA rate is $215.00 or $191.00 (cityview). No rooms are avail at the Sheriton. The Holiday Inn Sunspree has a Gulfview room for $89.50 (with entertainment card)with a fridge and the Econolodge has a cityview room for $71.50 with microwave/fridge/oven.
Please give me feedback on the Adam's Mark hotel or any others and what activites/restaurants you reccommend. Also any other areas that you think may be better.

I live in Clearwater and I think you got a great deal for the hotel. The location is excellent, especially if you don't have a car. You can use the Jolly Trolley for $1.00 each way (I think), which will take you from Clearwater Beach all the way down to St. Pete Beach.

There are lots of good restaurants nearby, several within walking distance (Leverock's, Crabby Bill's, Post Corner Pizza). The hotel has a fantastic seafood buffet on Friday nights. The Beachcomber is excellent. A little further south on Indian Rocks Beach are Guppy's and Keegan's -- seafood, and if you are in the mood for French food, try Nadia's.

Busch Gardens is a little less than an hour away.

Miniature golf is down the street, and don't forget the beach!!

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mary! I feel pretty goood about it. I think we will rent a car because the cost of going to/from the airport should make it fairly easy to justify.
Are the sunsets as nice as I've heard. I've never seen the sun set over the ocean before only sunrises. Is pier 60 fun? Any other Ideas. How about that beach that you have to take a ferry to is that something we should do? I think we are going to see the Devil Rays play. Do you know if the stadium is nice? We were going town February 9th-14th then had to change plans. Looks like the weather should be a lot nicer then...
Thanks Again,
Jim

Be sure to take a day and drive from Clearwater Beach to St Pete. It is wonderful!! Your hotel will have a little map giving all the interesting things to see and do on the way. There are marina's that are just fun to strol. There's one marina on the way to St Pete that casino boats operate from. We watched them leave for their cruise and dolphins played behind them, wanting food I imagine. Right across from Pier 60 (which is fun to walk out on, nothing to do once you get out there except to watch the fishermen and pelican's but I'd do it again) is the roundabout and a marina. We had the most fun of going deep sea fishing! I felt the cost was reasonable and sooooo much fun! The captain of the boat does most of the work so don't worry if you've never done it. Then Crabby Bills, right by the marina, will cook your catch for you and serve whatever sides you want to go with it for a reasonable price. We sat outside with drinks while waiting for "our catch". I can also recommend Leverock's as a good place for seafood. Have fun!!

Jim- Another vote for Adam's Mark. Great location and the Tiki Bar outside on the terrace, right on the water, is a most relaxing spot for a drink or lunch. Yes, the sunsets are beautiful. The Tropicana Dome, where the Devil Ray's play, is really nice- loads of eateries and shops. My kids used to fish off Pier 60- I still think you can. Another fun spot for a bite to eat is Frenchy's- just beyond Pier 60. Enjoy! kk

Is St. Pete's beach nicer? Is the beach nice in front of Adam's Mark? How crowded will it be in April? Thanks for all the replies!!! We will miss our 2 boys (9 months and 22 months) but sometime alone willl be cherished!!!

I'm topping this post since I am also interested in hearing more about the Adam's Mark & the Clearwater Beach area.
How is the beach @Adam's Mark?
How far is Pier 60 from this hotel?
Is the Adam's Mark one of the finer establishments in Clearwater Beach?

Finally, is there enough to keep an active family occupied for a week @Clearwater Beach? Would spend 1 day at Busch Gardens & another at Adventure Island.
How does Adventure Island compare to the Disney water parks? Anyone out there??
Thank you!

I just spent a weekend at Clearwater Beach. The Adams Mark is a very nice hotel, but since it is on the entrance to the channel between two islands, it's on a seawall with no beach directly on the Gulf. You have to walk a hundred yards north to get to the nice, soft sand beach.

Pier 60 is about half a mile north of the Adams Mark - at least that's what the signs say for distance. It didn't seem that far to me.

I'm sure the Adams Mark is nicer then the Hilton as the Hilton usually comes up on Priceline for less than $100 and people are dissatisfied with it even at that rate!

Whatever you do, do NOT eat at a place called Cooter's; go for Leverock's or any of the Frenchy's on the island.
