Chicago tours and suites in March

We will be spending a few days of spring break, end of March, in Chicago with our 2 teenagers (15 & 18). Many people have recommended the architecture tours or boat tours of Chicago, but these must be open boats because these tours don't seem to run in March. Does anyone have more info about tours there? Several people have said the Untouchables bus tour was not really worth it. Also, we have reservations at both Embassy Suites downtown (not lakefront, which we think would be cold) and Doubletree, because seems like a suite would work best for the 4 of us. If anyone has a better idea about suites there, I'd appreciate it (Homewood was full).

The Chicago Architecture Foundation (www.architecture.org) runs tours throughout the year, but not the boat tours. They only run from May 1 - early November. There are some competing organizations that have river or lake tours, but I doubt that any would be operating that early. The CAF does run a variety of other tours, by bus or foot. www.wrightplus.org has tours of the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak PArk. You can get more information on tourist activities at choosechicago.com Also, do a search on Chicago here on Fodor's; similar questions have been answered recently.

Our March weather is usually stays in the 40's during the day, with nights in the 20s and 30s, although the last week of March is predicted to be warmer than usual.

Patg, I hope you're right about out weather, I'm sick of this cold! Marcan, check out the city of Chicago's website. They have a guide program to different neighborhoods that is supposed to be great.

The Chicago Tribune website, www.metromix.com has lots of information for you. If you click on Visiting Chicago on the far left side of the home page, then scroll down to Things to do in Chicago on the bottom right, you will find a list of nearly sixty tours being offered in March.

You might look into the Chicago Greeter program, visitors can select an area of interest and have a free tour provided by docents. www.chicagogreeter.com
