My wife and I are looking for an Italian rest. on Adams street around the W hotel.

We'll be there on a Friday and aren't interested in meat b/c we're Catholics. We would probably just be eating pasta and pizza, but we'd like some atmosphere, some class and a good experience.

Any suggestions on something in the area?

I think the restaurant at the W might be Italian, but I've never been there. The Italian Village one block north and a block or two east on Monroe (near Dearborn) has three restaurants. Vivere is the most upscale. Trattoria #10 or Rosebud (or La Rosetta, not sure which it is called these days) near Dearborn/Madison are other options within a few blocks. Reservations recommended for all on a Friday night.

I can second the recommendation for Vivere @Italian Village -- wonderful squash raviolli amd very upscale atmosphere. It's located in the Loop off of Dearborn I think.

I'll "third" Vivere. It is a very sophisticated space with excellent food.

I also would highly recommend Italian Village.

Italian Village is good as is Trattoria #10 - one of my favorites.

I'm thinking the IVillage is on Monroe? Anyway, the Village part of the restaurant is very good, kinda dark, and it is supposed to resemble an Italian Village at night. Vivere, is more modern, upscale but also very good. I LOVED my "lavender-infused" creme brulee there for dessert! Mmmmmmm. Enjoy!

We just had dinner at the Italian Village which is upstairs from Vivere before we went to see The Producers. I loved the atmosphere, very 'cavey' lots of booths and nooks and crannys, long narrow room. Service was good. Food was average, I've had better but its wasn't bad by any stretch. Menu is large, lots of choices to allow for the Catholic no meat on Friday's during Lent....situation. It should be a short walk from your hotel.
