Litespeed, from my understanding both North and South Carolina passed legislation (spear headed by the National Restaurant Association) changing the school calendar year to require that kids go back to school after Labor Day.

As a result, many coastal areas in both states are seeing a surge in occupancy the last two weeks of August. Traditionally, the last two weeks of August drop off from summer peak rates.

Have you checked prices?

gotravel - here in NC the change in school starting has not been that dramatic. Our kids start the 18th (this week) others started last week and some others in this area start next week. I don't know of any in WNC that start in Sept. I'm not sure of what was adopted in SC. I think that in NC what was passed was starting 8/25 but many schools were able to get exemptions based on a proven amount of snow days. ... so, bottom line - Litespeed should be ok going the weekend of the 26th....but who knows.

Yes, that is the problem. There are enough schools that haven't gone back that we are fortunate enough to be looking at record high occupancy rates.

Have you tried the Post & Courier? What about VRBO.com? Last minute something should come up!
