Charleston to Savannah
Am about to take a road trip which involves traveling from Charleston, SC to Savannah, GA. Heard somewhere (?) that there is a very interesting place to stop/visit on the way -
cannot remember what it was. Would anyone have any ideas on this?

Perhaps you're thinking of the beautiful coastal city of Beaufort, SC http://www.beaufort.com/ If not, perhaps you should be! We stopped there enroute from Savannah to Charleston and took a walking tour with Jon Sharp which was outstanding: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR..._Carolina.html (no, that's not my review)
Have a great trip. We love both cities, especially Charleston.

By all means, take the detour to Beaufort ... one of the most beautiful towns in the USA, scenic waterfront, historic homes, quaint downtown, the location shoot for several motion pictures (The Big Chill, The Great Santini, Forrest Gump, The Prince of Tides). Just outside of town is Parris Island, the Marine Corp Recruit Training Base, and Lady's Island, home to one of the last remaining Gullah-Geechee communities descended from African slaves.
