I stayed at the Vendue Inn in 2011 and really loved it. The rooftop has a great view of the city. Comfortable modern rooms while the buildings fit with the history-rich vibe of the historic downtown peninsula. There are charming paintings in the lobbies, tasty & innovative breakfasts, as well as bend-over-backwards helpful staff. I'm not anywhere near as picky as some, but this would be a place I'd even recommend to pickier friends.
