Charleston SC 3 day visit

Thinking about a 3 day visit to Charleston SC. Our first trip there will be in January 2014. Will be driving and want recommendations for a 4 - 5 star hotel or bed and breakfast in the city. Also would like restaurant recommendations. Would also like to do a walking tour. Thanks.

Well, then 2 Meeting Street would be your B&B of choice, I'd think.
There are probably close to 200 threads on places to eat in Charleston here.

2 Meeting St., Planter's Inn, or Charleston Place are all nice. Check out Wentworth Mansion as well.

Look at Ed Grimball and Michael Trouche for walking tours. Carriage tours are fun too.

There are 190 + sit down restaurants on the Charleston peninsula. State your preferences and we can help you narrow it down.

You might want to, as posted, read through all that's been written about where to stay, where to eat, and what to do in Charleston.

Google luxurylink.com for a potential deal at Charleston Place. I usually get two nights in a junior suite for 5 or 6 hundred dollars including breakfasts and a $100 credit for dining. Best deal in Charleston, IMO.

If I were spending a couple of nights downtown I would go to French Quarter Inn. If you wanted incredible restaurants that are not typical tourist places, you might want to look at Upper King Street (eg. Stars, and Macintosh). If you are here the second sunday of January, King Street closes to cars and the whole area has a festival atmosphere of shopping and food. If you have to leave on Sunday, it is worth booking your flight out a little later so you can partake. It runs from 1-5 on the second sunday of every month. Also, we now have three great theaters in the heart of downtown so you might want to check out a play!

You get an invite to join; then you get daily emails with the deals. You book on their site. The hotels are usually higher end. The rooms are prepaid.

You'll also be in town for the next "restaurant week" which runs from January 8 to 19.

If you see a place you like, or that you've heard good things about, reserve soon.

I love Restaurant Week. We used to carefully our plan of attack!

Last year we went to Tristan, Anson, and McCrady's. All three were great. Tristan is a bit different from the traditional Charleston places. kathleen, see if you can get reservations. You are so right. Places fill up quickly.

We did restaurant week this past September. It was great!

I see I never posted about where we ended up eating - will do so, I promise!

The Vendue is great. They have a nice rooftop bar if weather permits.

It's an older hotel (many of the Charleston hotels are) but they do a great job, including milk and cookies at night. If you want something newer look at Charleston Place.
