Cats and Airlines

I read this on a post and was wondering which airline lets you do this. I am also alergic to cats and was wondering if an airline truly does let people with cats rebook on another flight. Any info on who does this or if they do it would be great.

I suggest you always tell the airline about your allergy when you fly; when I booked my cats, the airline informed me that if any of the other passengers on the flight declared an animal allergy in advance, I would have to be bumped from the flight, which I thought was perfectly fair.

You posted this previously and I was as curious then as now.

Paragraph #1 you say you are allergic to cats. Paragraph #2 talks about "when I booked my cats". Are you allergic to them or not? My s-i-l was when he began dating our daughter. 12 years later they have three house cats, all tamed ferals. She's always been a cat person and it was going to happen, yet he still can't pet our cat without symptoms, although he seems to truly like her--(perhaps because she adores him). I honestly don't understand what's at play here. He's symptomless with their cats, but nose runs and eyes swell with ours. It doesn't appear to by psychosomatic, but is there an element of that in play with this sort of allergy?

The 1st paragraph is what I am asking, the second paragraph is what I saw on a post. I am asking if there is such an airline that indeed makes people with a cat go on another flight if someone declares an allergy.

Sorry for the confusion

I too am curious about this issue. hj, you never did get a specific answer on the other thread. I did a google search and found out they treat dogs better than pax! Here's a link to a Frommer's article that basically says the only US airline that bans animals in the cabin(except service animals) is Southwest. Most other airlines allow from 2 to 4 pets depending on size of plane. Seems unfair, not to mention dangerous to those highly allergic - isn't that why we banned smoking?

Hi to Olive! Allergies are so weird. I'm mildly allergic to my own two precious cats...they can sit by my mousepad, but if I pet them (especially at eye level), watch out! My eyes will suffer b-a-d! However, I can go into friends' homes with no prob - the opposite of your soninlaw! Still can't really stroke any cat though without symptoms...

From what I have learned from the numerous threads lately on this forum about this subject:
If one flies with a pet, the airlines have to be told first. If they know someone is bringing a pet on board, they tell people, if someone has an allergy, the pet and owner get bumped. You have to agree to this when booking a flight with your pet.
Also-if one has an allergy that is lifethreatening/dangerous, one would know to ask if there are pets on board, if there are shrimp in the salad, etc. so I don't really think people are in much danger here.
I think you can just look online at various airlines and see their pet policies. Continental posts theirs, so I imagine others do also.
