Car Services from EWR

Hello

Two of us will arrive into EWR on Wednesday around 5pm. We have a hotel in Manhattan - Park Central. It was suggested to me that the easiest way to get from the airport to the hotel with luggage etc would be with a car service. Just wondering which car services you would recommend and what should I expect to pay?

Thank you!

A base fare of about $50, but then depending on location, tolls, and tips prhaps $70-$80. Here are three well-known companies.

Dial 7 is one of the largest and we have always found them reliable. Their base price for a standard car (not town car or limo) from EWR to Manhattan is $48 - plus tunnel toll ($14 cash) and tip (20% of the fare) - for a total of $72.

Note that at specific times (holidays, etc) the fare may be higher.

You need to reserve a car in advance and then call when you get off you plane and the car should be there by the time you get your luggage.

Do NOT get "meet and greet" - where the driver stands at the luggage carousel with your name on a sign. It costs much more since the have to 1) pay to park the car and 2) may spend a significant amount of time waiting if your plane is late.

If you are looking for something less expensive and are willing to schlep your luggage you can take the large airporter bus to Port Authority and walk to the hotel from there.

I asked this question recently and Carmel was suggested. We used them and it worked out perfectly. Their price for 3 of us from EWR to the pier in Brooklyn was an amazing $88 including tolls and tip so check with them on price. They arrived very quickly once called. No complaints at all.

We have used Carmel Limo from all the NYC airports to the city and back for many years. As mentioned above, do not request meet and greet.

Before trying to use any of the newer services be sure that they are allowed to pick up at the airports - believe they are not allowed at some of them.

The only thing I'd add is that I don't recommend a car service at 5pm on a Wednesday. You may spend an hour or more in tunnel traffic. If you can manage your luggage, I'd recommend taking the train to Penn Station and then getting a taxi to your hotel. It could be twice as fast.

If you can't manage your luggage, then a car service is the best option since you're in a/c and not subject to a meter ticking.

These are car services - not rental agencies. And the first is a "no name" being advertised by the poster along with two majors.
