Car Service Manhattan
I am elderly and slightly handicapped (walk with a cane) so want to know of a reliable car service/driver for transport to/from theater when cabs are so hard to get. What do they charge? Not a limousine.

I think you'd be best to ask your hotel. I recommend limores.net for getting to/from the airport, but for local rides, not sure they're the best option. Many of the car services have minimums for local rides (ie 2 or 3 hrs.) Ask the hotel who they use. I think you should be able to use a taxi getting to the theater. The doorman can get one for you. It's the getting back that will be a problem.

When are you going and where are you staying? Will you be alone?
This may sound hair-brained, but they have those "rickshaw" type carts outside the theatres. If you're relatively close to your hotel, what a great and fun way to get back (if it isn't freezing cold)! What's more they get through the traffic when it is stopped.
And yes, you can get a taxi to the theatre.
