Car rentals on Maui

Do any of the car rental companies have their facilities on site at the Maui airport, or do you always have to take a shuttle to get the car? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you have to shuttle to all of them, but it isn't far.

If you can, have someone wait for the luggage while someone else gets the car. The person with the luggage can wait out by the curb in the nice Hawaii air and the person with the car can drive by and pick them up.

I would say it's easier to take luggage and all to the car rental facilities that way you don't have to drive back to the airport. That's what we did and it wasn't a hassle at all.

1/4 mile at most to the cars; easy to loop back and pick up people!

In Aloha's and Hawaiian's in flight magazines, they recommend that someone go for the car while the other gets the luggage.

It sounds good on paper, but the reality is that OGG is a small airport and as more and more visitors discover this trick, that means more and more people circling the airport and looking for places to park to load up. I dread having to go up to pick up people anymore, as I have to jockey for a place at the curb with an endless stream of Chrysler convertibles, PT Cruisers, and Jeeps. It gets even worse when luggage is delayed (as it so often is at OGG) and we have choke cars circling endlessly.

I thought the advice had come from that damn blue book. Didn't know the airlines were telling people to do this!

It's really not too much trouble to catch the shuttle. If the whole family goes, there will be that many more eyes looking for damage on the car before you leave the lot.

I think the idea was, before we all started bragging about leaving someone to get the bags wuz

Beat the rush and lines at the rental agency, while the tourists all waited for luggage. The rental car lines can be carefree or a nightmare depending on timing.

But now that the word is out,, and I have proffessed this to be the best itinerary.

Well it doesnt quite work as well as it once did.

Be sure to join the car rental company's frequent renter program. You will then be able to join the shorter line and get out in your car and enjoying Paradise a lot faster!
