I've never stayed at either but will add my two cents anyway. My kids (8 and 11) would prefer the Cape Codder because of the wave pool. I'm not crazy about either Hyannis or South Yarmouth (very commercialized) so I would stay in Hyannis and get to beautiful beaches either in Dennis or Harwich.

If your kids like the beach, the Red Jacket is your choice. Right on the beach and lots of ice-cream, mini-golf, etc nearby. The Cape Codder, while centrally located in Hyannis, is on a busy major road, with malls and restaurants nearby. The red Jacket also has a kids program....

If I had my choice, I'd not go to either- except maybe a day trip to the wave pool! Hyannis is crowded, tacky and not the Cape at all. Red Jacket is right on the beach, but on Rt. 28 in So.Y armouth. I'd say that would be the better choice, if you must stay in that area.

Red Jacket is NOT on Rt. 28, it south of there on quiet(relatively) South Shore Drive, yes RT. 28 has turned very commercial, but with all it's mini golf, ice-cream shops, fast food restaurants, it might be better with children to have that nearby.

Have not stayed at either .. but know the area very well ... Red Jacket is probably a better choice .. children or no children .. Cape Codder is right in the middle of Hyannis and you are surrounded with malls, restaurants and traffic ... not much of a Cape vacation .. If you can .. perhaps you could reconsider .. the 6A side of Dennis has beautiful beaches .. Corporation or Mayflower .. perfect for the young or old .. the Route 28 side of Dennis has some great beaches as well .. with lots to do and see for children as well .. There are lots of motels in the West Dennis/Dennisport area to stay at .. On the 6A side there are less motels .. but tons of bed and breakfasts to stay at which might not work so well with young children .. I would call the local Chamber of Commerce in Dennis and ask for some brochures .. However if your choice is between South Yarmouth or Hyannis .. definitely South Yarmouth .. But be sure to take the children to The Dog House in Dennisport .. food is very good and lots of families take their children ..

Definitely the Red Jacket. I can't see two 5 year olds getting all excited about a wave pool (maybe that's just me or the kids I know). Let the kids run around, make sand castles, and swim in the real waves so they will get tired out and you can have a nice vacation too. The beach at the Red Jacket is nice, although the Dennis beaches off of 6A are superior.

I agree that the Red Jacket is a better choice. Hyannis traffic is a nightmare in the summer. South Yarmouth is bad too, but at least you'll already be at the beach at Red Jacket. I, too, prefer the beaches in Dennis off 6A, but there is a lot of activity in South Yarmouth, so if that's what you're looking for, Red Jacket is the preferable choice.
