Good Coffee in New York

The "Good Living" section of the Sydney Morning Herald had these recommendations yesterday & I'm posting in the hope it might be useful to other Aussie coffee lovers.

Ruby's ... run by an Australian, uses Segafredo. (Also has vegemite!)
Joe
Jack's
Cafe Gitane
The Soy Luck Club
Cafe Angelique

Panino Giusto .. West Village cafe/bakery.
Gimme Coffee in Williamsburg
St. Helen Cafe near Bedford St., Williamsburg.
La Bergamote - Chelsea.

The article didn't give any addresses, other than what I've posted, so if anyone can fill in the blanks - and/or add to the list, I'm sure there would be a bunch of VERY GRATEFUL people !

De Roberti's on the east side First Ave, btw 10th & 11th. They've been serving up espresso and biscotti since 1904.

Oh, and you probably don't have to be Australian to enjoy ;-)

I guess it depends on what style of coffee you like. Via Quadronno for cappucino on the upper east side.

Thanks everyone - much appreciated.

Sorry AllanNYC, no offence meant - just my clumsy phrasing (LOL).

Every city has it's great and goddawful coffee places (we sure do!) and the trick for me is always getting to the greats without too many pit stops in the goddawfuls on the way through (LOL)So, I guess I was just thinking it would be handy for other "out of towners" who mightn't be "in the know".

I'm so excited to be going to NY, can't wait to get into the galleries, museums, hopefully some theatre, hire a bicycle in Central Park ... absorb!

The best coffee in Ny has to be my kitchen

I just got a new coffee/espresso maker and it's ust like my favorite, Via Quadronno....also their iced cappucino is unbelieveable.

Hi McLaurie,

No - I haven't heard back from Wantsomesun, so I guess their plans may have changed.

I've shortlisted some apartments & hotels from the links people on Fodors have given (Thanks Everyone !) and we're meeting this week to go through them all.

My friend will now only be in NY for 1 week, so I think I'll take your suggestion & try a different location for the 2nd week (maybe a B&B ?).

Will keep you posted. Thanks again for your help. Long weekend here - Queen's Birthday - and am off to visit cousins on the Central Coast. Cheers

There are lot'sof good Italian coffee in NYC. But, if you want a walk-in-and-out type, Veniero's Bakery on 10th Street (bet. 1st and 2nd) serve coffee almost as good as those coffee bars in Italy and looks like one, too.

Veniero's also sells very good Italian pastries (think cannolis).

Joe's is located in the West Village near the corner of Waverly Place and Sixth Avenue. The coffee is excellent. One of the few places where they get the foam on a latte or cappucino in a design like a leaf or flower.
