With regard to the radiation from Japan reaching the U.S., here's an article on the subject. Bottom line, low probability of a problem.

P.S. Today, and for the next few days, the jet stream pattern goes north of Hawaii.

X-Bellman-Don't think you will need to worry about the radiation here in CA. I'm a little confused about why you are mad at SW airlines. Sounds like you just didn't purchase a ticket for your wife. I've flown SW for years and have never had any problem. When you're buying tickets for more than one person, always to check for your confirmation email right away. That way you can catch any mistakes. As far as their boarding passes, the sooner you check in the better, that's the only trick with that.
I'm sure you've been watching the weather but it's going to be a little cooler this weekend and a 70% chance of rain on Sunday and showers on Monday. So keep this in mind for your Legoland and Sea World days.
You will probably will still get some traffic close to LAX even at 6:30 but it should be easing up a little and you can use the carpool lanes.

Here we go....my trip report:
Arrivedin LA around 5:00, got our luggage and headed over to Enterprise to rent our SUV....ran down the street to "Islands" for dinner-Great suggestion, Islands had really good food and service! Then drove down to San Diego to our Hotel the Catamaren...arrived about 10:30 because we got a bit lost but not too bad. Pretty much went straight to bed the first night as we were all worn out!
2nd Day went up to Seaworld which was about 10 minutes from our Hotel. It was a lot of fun and both kids liked the shows, dolphins, etc. Came back to Hotel and walked the beach (seemed cold to me) went out to dinner in the mission bay area.
day 3) Drove up to Legoland which is a really awesome place!! Kids liked it a bit better than Sea world. At 1:30 my cousin called and said if you want to beat traffic it's time to leave or stay until 5:00. My wife was sick so we headed up to Glendora...not much traffic and a beautiful drive! Had dinner that night at Spaghetti Eddies...nice pizza joint.
day 4) Went to Disneyland for most of the day....a couple of the big rides were down
Very crowded and my kids really hated standing in line....even with the quick passes. We left a bit early and i felt we didn't get our moneys worth.
Day 5) Went to disnland california park next to disney. It was raining but we didn't care. After leaving legoland and disneyland a bit early I was going to get my moneys worth that day no matter what! We stayed all day, rode all major rides (tower of terror is awesome!!) and took in a few shows. The Aladdin show was very, very good..don't miss that show!!!
Day 6) Went to Burbank to meet the cast of the TV show "Chuck" All really nice kids...then main Actor Zach was really nice to us. I didn't feel comfortable asking him for a picture and now i'm regretting it!!
All and all a great trip. You really need 2 days for DL as someone else noted...1 day is def not enough.
Im guessing the Southwest air mistake was my fault...although I hate admitting that!!!
If and when we go back I will pick one town or the other to stay in.....I did way too much driving for being on vacation and the traffic in CA is unlike any i've ever seen.....but there is something about CA that I really like..don't know if I could live there but I for sure could visit that place once a month!!!
