Amelie, go to *www.restauranteur.com/caffecoco* and read that write-up for the best info on the place. It is in Wailua, on the Coconut Coast (eastern) of Kauai, and we just happened on to the place (actually had read about it in Frommer's Guide) and fell in love with it because it's so different. It's very laid-back, and just enchanting at night. (You want to go as it's getting dark!) You will need an insect repellant (a few mosquitoes at times), comfy shoes.............and NOT to be in a hurry, but it's wonderful!

This gets our vote for the most charming ambience on Kauai, with gourmet fare cooked to order, and at cafe prices. Food gets a lot of individual attention here. Caffè Coco is just off the main road at the edge of a cane field in Wailua, its backyard shaded by pomelo, avocado, mango, tangerine, lychee, and banana trees, with a view of Sleeping Giant Mountain. The trees provide many of the ingredients for the muffins, chutneys, salsas, and fresh-squeezed juices that Ginger Carlson whips up in her kitchen. Seats are indoors (beyond the black-light art gallery) or on the gravel-floored back courtyard, where tiki torches flicker at night. From interior design to cooking, this is clearly a showcase for Carlson's creativity. The food is excellent, with vegetarian and other healthful delights such as spanakopita, homemade chai, Greek salad, fish wraps, macadamia nut-black sesame ahi with wasabi cream, and an excellent tofu-and-roast-veggie wrap. Although the regular menu is limited, there are many impressive specials. Service can be, to say the least, laid-back. Next door, Carlson's sister runs Bambulei, a vintage shop of treasures

In daylight, you can see Sleeping Giant Mountain across the fields; at night, tiki torches blaze as regulars gather for live jazz or Hawaiian music. Fresh-fish wasabi rolls, Moroccan-spiced tofu wraps, and curried sweet potato samosas are among her creative coups.

Reasonably priced and BYOB, Coco is tops in my book.

YO! KAL......... I sorta like this place, dinner there twice, and breakfast there my last day on Kauai!! It is magic at night. I HAVE A PAINTING OF CAFFE COCO HANGING IN MY FAMILY ROOM RIGHT NOW! I am looking at it! Yeah, I sorta like this joint! ;-)

Not fine dining but a pretty good food/price/quality ratio for Kauai.

Hole in the wall located between Safeway and Pac Cafe.

Caffe Coco is very charming, tho a bit pricey for what is offered. The entertainment in hit or miss but it is always interesting, LOL. It's a darling restaurant, I always take visitors there if only for dessert and coffee.
You can bring your own wine and beer, most people grab an outdoor table and stay put for the evening.

I am sure they have fallen on hard times there. They used to be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Several years ago they completely shut down for breakfast service. Then they quit serving lunch. Now lunch is back on for limited hours on limited days. I used to go on the AM , have coffee, read the paper, I was crushed when they closed for breakfast.
