Just a follow-up. We saw three shows during a 5 night/5 day trip...though it was really only 4 nights since we arrived at 11:30pm. We were happy with seeing that many shows. Anymore would have been too many for us.

All three were fantastic and I would recommend: Spamalot, In the Heights, and Fela. Fela was our favorite and it was off-Broadway. It's too bad that it's done now because it was an amazing show and it deserves to be on Broadway.

Thanks for all of the advice, it was very helpful!

I heard that Legally Blonde is closing at the end of this month (the 28th) A friend had tickets for Thanksgiving Week and they were contacted about the closing.

Yes, but Hairspray is closing the first week of January and Harvey Fierstein is coming back to play Edna from November 11 till closing. I'd put that high on my list if you haven't seen it.

We just got back from NYC. While my husband was visiting jazz clubs I saw Hairspray, Boeing Boeing and 39 Steps. Enjoyed Boeing and 39 Steps but was disappointed with Hairspray. All the roles were great except George Wendt who played the role of Edna. I was looking forward to seeing him in this role but it was almost painful to watch him. He often appeared to be out of breath and the role seemed difficult for him.

I agree with Patrick-if you can see Harvey Fierstein in Hairspray, it's definitely worth it.

Patrick-Have you heard anything about how long Patti Lupone is staying with Gypsy? I had heard March but just wondered if there was different news especially with all these shows closing. We were going to go to NYC in Nov but now am planning for Jan 2009. I hope she is still doing the show because that is one of the reasons I am going at that time of year.

I think the March date still stands for Patti Lupone in Gypsy. Since her name is above the title, I'm kind of doubting it will continue without her.

I do know she's scheduled to tour with Mandy Patinkin -- as she's scheduled in Naples in March.

Thanks. That's what I had heard but I will keep a close eye on it. There is no doubt the economy is hurting Broadway.
