Broadway shows

Hi all, I am visiting NYC the first two weeks of September and we have booked tix for Memphis, Promises, Promises and American Idiot. Are there any other 'must sees' we should book? What have you all enjoyed recently?

They don't have to be musicals but we just seem to gravitate that way. Also I saw a DVD of Rent recently and would love to see a live show. Does anyone know if there is a production on at all?

Thanks.

Sadly, you will most definitely not be able to see Rent when you come to NYC.

I enjoyed all three shows you have tix for, to different degrees. I would definitely think about seeing La Cage Aux Folles. Terrific show -- great cast, very funny, and touching.

Other shows I love that are currently on Broadway:
- In the Heights: great music, very fun, terrific dancing
- Next to Normal: Dark and sad, but just won a Pulitzer. Not a show for everyone.
- Jersey Boys
- Wicked

Enjoy your trip!

Rent closed awhile ago, but if you liked Rent you might like Into The Heights with similar themes. There may be some new shows in preview when you are here, so you might check the www.playbill.com site and www.tkts.org for idea.

If you havent' seen Wicked yet, that would be must see on my list.

Have a GREAT time.

I don't think In the Heights has anything to do with Rent but it's a terrific show if you haven't seen it. It's regularly available on discount on the left column of broadwaybox.com as are all the shows you've already purchased but the current codes expire before your trip so you'd have to wait a bit to purchase. But I'm sure there'll be more codes for Sept. Wicked & Jersey Boys are never discounted. Brief Encounter will be in preview while you're here. http://www.playbill.com/celebritybuz...Broadway-Shows

No one has mentioned Billy Elliot, which is certainly one of the best shows playing right now.

If you go to one more, see 'La Cage.' It was absolutely wonderful!

Thanks everyone, great help as usual. I should have mentioned I have seen Jersey Boys and Wicked already but not the others mentioned. Will try to squeeze in at least one more.

Mclaurie thanks very much for that link. Funnily I watched Brief Encounter only 3 nights ago and really enjoyed it. I'll keep an eye out for tix to the preview.
