Bristol Hotel in San Diego, Anyone stay here?

I'm about ready to book a hotel I've never heard of before. I heard about it on Orbitz and it has a fantastic rate of $79 for a weeekend! Of course this is just seasonal rate but for S.D. it seems good. All the info I have is it's a "Jazz Boutique" hotel across the street from the Horton Mall. Never been to the downtown area so is it safe? I've only stayed on Mission Bay & Coronado Island so I'm not familiar with the downtown area. Any help would be appreciated. If there are any other places someone would like to suggest, my price range is no more than $200 per night. Thanks!

If you have a car, check parking fees at downtown hotels. They run from $4.00 to $20.00 per day.

I stayed here about a year ago. It's a short walk to the heart of the gaslamp section. The rooms have Ikea like furniture with very bright colors. I remember there were daisies everywhere and Andy Warhol paintings. It felt very safe and a fun area to wander around. Go for the cheap rate and spend your money on some great dinners in the area!

Thank you for letting me know about the parking, that is something I totally forgot! And yes, I kind of thought about the look of the hotel, very Ikea'ish and I'm not fond of that look. I guess I'l think about it now. Thanks!

though i've not stayed there (i'm a local), the bristol court was recently remodeled from it's past dumpy state within the last couple years - hence the ikea decor. the only obvious downside to this place would be it's close proximity to the trash magnet known as the greyhound bus depot.
