Ever Stayed in Weed, California?
Thinking of staying a night in Weed on our way up to Washington State. Looking at the map, Weed seems like a decent stopping point and a good place to go for a hike before getting back on the road the next day (to Portland).
As far as accomodations, we can choose from a Comfort Inn and a Holiday Inn Express. There's also a Best Western in Mt. Shasta just down the road.
The luxury will begin on this trip a little later, and fortunately the hotels are already booked. We decided not to stop in Ashland/Medford since the play we want to see won't be presented on the day we're coming through.
This is the the first night of a long road trip, and since we don't know what time we'll be arriving, we'd rather count on a road motel rather than a B&B. Though if there's anything nicer to recommend in this area, I'd love to hear about it.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Haved stayed there many times...its a good 1/2 way point from WA to CA for us. I haven't hiked there so can't help you with that. There are some good basic hotels there and we have never had any problems. I remember staying there for a night during long trips as a child even.

Hi tpl
Never stayed in Weed but have driven by several times. I have stayed at the best western in Mt Shasta was was pleased with room and dinner. I think Mt Shasta is a bit nicer than Weed. There are hiking trails at Castle Lake or at Panther meadow on Mt. Shasta.
Have Fun

Dunsmuir would be my choice. We stayed at the Cave Rock Springs (Inexpensive)many times while my Dad worked on his cabin below in Shasta Retreat. If you stay in Dunsmuir you can walk down through the archway through Shasta Retreat and hike along the river as long or as short as you like. You can acess the other side on the motel side, but I think the railroad track side is easier. If you go further up the freeway on the left there is a falls trail. You will see the signs. The river is a better hike IMO.

Thanks so much!
Dunsmuir and Mt. Shasta sound like good alternatives. We'll probably take a hike in Castle Crags SP or nearby before hitting the road.
Any experiences with the Oak Tree Inn or the Railroad Park Resort? Any other hotels/motels nearby?
Applejaxs, would you recommend the Cave Rock Springs?
Thanks again.

I have stayed in Mt. Shasta City at the Strawberry Inn several times -nice. Also, stayed in Dusmuir at the Oak Tree Inn - basic but clean. Both towns have some great resturants and the area is beautiful. I have been through Weed several times, but haven't had a desire to stay the night there. Have a great trip!

Hi,
Got back from Weed on Memorial day after 2 nights at the Townhouse Motel run by Richard & Carolyn.
We used the motel as our base for a drive to Crater Lake, OR and returned via 97 South. From a Memorial Park 14 miles north of Weed we got the most spellbinding and spectacular view of Mt Shasta which is loaded with snow at this time.
The Motel is run professionally, clean and very economical located at the foot of Mt Shasta. Drive safely.

We have stayed at the Railroad Park. I's location is great for yur hike. Sleeping in the train car is fun. They are quite nice. The hot tub was not exactly hot and the food was mediocre at in the dining room, still glad we did it once!
