After breakfast you could stop at Central market and buy muffaletta sandwichs and extend your N.O. dining experiance for lunch on the way home.

OK...here's my 2 cents. I was in NOLA this past March and ate at several of the places mentioned. I've dined at others on previous visits.

Brennan's for an excellent formal breakfast. Be prepared to be there awhile as most people get the 3-course meal. As Bachs said, it gets mixed reviews, but our last visit several years ago was excellent.

Stanley! was one of our lunch spots, but a couple of people in my party had breakfast, which they serve all day. DD had the Bananas Foster French Toast, and DM had one of the Egg dishes. Stella! is their sister restaurant and rates very highly on Trip Advisor.

Oceana was another of our lunch spots, but during research for our most recent NOLA visit I read many glowing reviews of their breakfast. Our lunch was one of the best meals we had during this last trip. As Byrd mentions, they actually BOUGHT the menu from Petunia, but in addition bought some of the menu from Ole Nawlins Cookery that used to be next door.

Absolutely need to go to Cafe Du Monde, but I would not make that my breakfast choice. Not much to choose from but beignets and coffee...but of course that is enough for just a snack!

Agree to skip Mother's as I was not impressed.

Camillia Grill has been around forever, but I've never been. I had hoped to go in March, but the trolley wasn't running because St. Charles was on most of the parade routes.

I like Paul's idea about stopping at Central grocery to pick up muffalettas as you are leaving town. That was originally our plan too, but during Mardi Gras the line was down the street just to get in the door. That ended up being OK though, because we later realized it was Ash Wednesday and we couldn't eat it anyway! If you have time for a muffaletta while you are in town, try the version at Napolean House. It is a great place in the quarter with a beautiful bar and it also has been around for many years!

We just got back from our trip and breakfasts were as good as I remember them. We got to Oceana and they didn't have Eggs Melanzana on the menu...I was so bummed, but when I asked our waitress if they still had it, she said she gets it every morning and did I want it? It was as delicious as I remember.
Another breakfast place we tried was Eat. They had a similar eggs dish made with fried green tomatoes and it was fantastic, as were the shrimp and grits. I highly recommend it as well.

We brought muffalettas home for the 'ride'. Central Grocery has insulated bags just for that purpose. We enjoyed them at the airport and extended our NOLA experience for a few hours more. I highly recommend this!

It has been a billion years, but breakfast at Brennan's used to be SO expensive, the intakes of breath by those of us not on expense accounts was palpable!

We enjoyed Court of 2 Sisters much more. Again, many years ago, but they told us one could sit with a newspaper for the entire day. All you had to fight off was the birds.

I don't know if Stanleys was there. Have a great time!

Before Katrina, Stanley! was located on the Decatur Street side of the Provincial Hotel. La Madeleine, also a good breakfast place, was located at Stanley's current location on Jackson Square.

La Madeleine was damaged during the storm and didn't reopen. I think it moved to another location. Stanley! has been there for a while now.

(Stella! is a really good restaurant located on the Chartres side of the Provincial. I always thought it was very clever to name the two restaurants there after "Streetcar Named Desire" characters.)

And a very good Sunday brunch place is Ralph's on the Park.
